Air source heat pumps near Landport

How the job changes from property to property

Outdoor unit position and planning

Under permitted development, the outdoor unit must be 1.5 m³ or less and must meet MCS 020(a) and not be used solely for cooling. It can’t be within the curtilage of a listed building.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Only one grant is available per property, and it can’t replace a low-carbon system. Hybrids are excluded.

Air source heat pumps in Landport

Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. The work covers hot water cylinders, radiator systems and underfloor heating, and the jobs we see most are choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air and planning and permitted development questions.

Cottages and older homes near Landport can lose heat faster, so a proper heat loss calculation matters. Sometimes insulating first makes more sense.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

Landport questions

Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Landport?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. There’s a conservation area, the Mile End, Landport Conservation Area, close to central Landport. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Landport, normally Portsmouth council).

Is Landport within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Which brands do you work with?

We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

What VAT do I pay on a heat pump?

In residential accommodation, 0% until 31 March 2027 and 5% afterwards. Hotels and businesses pay the standard rate. Please treat this as general information, not tax advice.

Will my home qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Possibly. In England and Wales it pays £7,500 for an eligible air-to-water or ground source heat pump, and £2,500 for air-to-air under tighter rules. Until March 2027 there’s an extra £1,500 for air source or ground source heat pumps in homes on oil or LPG with no mains gas. We check your home against the rules at the survey.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Either way, keep a record of every service.

Fixed-price quotes for air source heat pumps in Landport

The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
  • The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
  • What we find on the survey or diagnosis

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we look at the job first, from pictures or on a survey, and the price is agreed before we start.

Asking for a quote

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
  • Any error code or flashing light on the display
  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it

For air source heat pumps in Landport, call 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier. Let us know the type of property and what you need, plus some pictures if they’re to hand. Enquiries get a reply the same working day.

Homes in Landport and heat pumps

At about 1 mile from the coast, Landport is close enough for sea air to matter. Coastal sites are worth mentioning at the survey, as salt air affects the outdoor unit and its fixings. The 2021 Census found about 62% of households live in flats. For flats, the first questions are where an outdoor unit could go, whether a cylinder fits and what the lease allows.

Live in one of the older houses around Church of All Saints? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. If you live near Portsmouth & Southsea station, the survey compares air-to-water and air-to-air for your home before anything is quoted.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

What we do, step by step

Each visit runs to the same pattern: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, carry out the job, check the system and talk you through it. On site, the work takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. We plan the visit to Landport from the survey or your photos.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

How to prepare

  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
  • Clear access to the fuse board
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
