Air source heat pumps across Kent Street

About our air source heat pumps in Kent Street

We install air source heat pumps in Kent Street and across Kent, and we’re MCS certified. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We’ll explain which type fits your home and why. If you are dealing with checking eligibility for a heat pump grant and a boiler that’s getting old, we can sort it out.

Older and listed homes in villages like Kent Street need extra care, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, so consent comes first.

Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. Where yours does, a regular service with us keeps that side in order and each visit is recorded.

When something else is needed

Air source heat pumps cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before any work starts. It doesn’t solve:

  • A grant for a home that does not meet the scheme rules
  • Getting planning permission or listed building consent on your behalf
  • Improving the building’s insulation

If you’re not sure, just phone 07833 053749 and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Where we work

  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Radiator systems

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. If a lane or gateway near Kent Street is tight for a van, let us know and we’ll plan for it.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records

Getting a quote

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, with the rate that applies to your job. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, ring us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Heat pumps in Kent Street: local notes

Valuation Office Agency council tax records show about 58% of homes across Kent Street and its surrounding area were built in 2000 or later, and the last census (2021) found about 73% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

Live in one of the older houses around St Lawrence's Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

Questions from Kent Street

Is a heat pump in Kent Street permitted development?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The half-mile around the middle of Kent Street holds about 8 listed buildings and structures. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where necessary, we check with the planning department at Tonbridge and Malling council, usually the authority for Kent Street.

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Kent Street?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Kent Street is in England, where it applies. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?

Air-to-water feeds your central heating and hot water, while air-to-air warms and cools rooms directly. Air-to-air doesn’t heat hot water and the survey helps decide.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we’ll agree what happens next.

What does an air-to-water heat pump cost?

For air-to-water, it’s £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes) before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. Air-to-air systems are priced after a survey, with the VAT confirmed on your quote.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?

It varies from room to room. We check them all during the survey, so the quote covers any changes.

When to call us in Kent Street

Extensions, renovations and loft conversions are a natural time to rethink the heating. It’s simpler to plan radiators, pipework and a cylinder while the builders are in.

These are the situations we see most often:

  • Planning and permitted development questions
  • Radiators that may be too small for a heat pump
  • Deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home

Old Soar Manor, roughly 2.8 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications
  • Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
  • How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected

Looking after it afterwards

So the system stays in good health:

  • Read the manufacturer’s warranty terms for your brand
  • Check eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme early
  • Use the settings explained at handover

We show you how to use the controls and explain how a heat pump works differently from a boiler. Heat pumps tend to work best running steadily rather than in short bursts, and we will explain the settings for your home.

Leave space around the outdoor unit. Airflow is what it runs on, so keep it clear all year.

What a customer said
