Air source heat pumps in Iping

Air source heat pumps in Iping, done properly

Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. It has to replace the fossil-fuel heating, cover the whole heating demand, be fitted by an MCS certified installer and be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. The work covers homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, air-to-air heat pumps and air-to-water heat pumps, and the jobs we see most are checking whether planning permission is needed and radiators that may be too small for a heat pump.

For a home around Iping that is off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027, on top of the £7,500.

Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Why act early in Iping

Getting the sizing wrong causes problems that are hard to fix later. A room-by-room survey gets it right first time. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.

A single unit or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You will have a fixed price before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Common questions in Iping

Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Iping?

Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Iping, if they qualify. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Is a heat pump in Iping permitted development?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The Iping Conservation Area takes in the middle of Iping. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the planning department at Chichester council, normally the authority for Iping first.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we will agree what happens next.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

Not the refrigerant work. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

How much time does a heat pump install need?

A typical installation takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short and agreed before we start.

Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?

It varies from room to room. The survey compares each radiator with the room’s needs and the quote shows what’s needed.

Before you call an engineer

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

The process

Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we show you what we’ve done and answer any questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. All told, the work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Photos of the room and the outside of the property help us plan a visit to Iping.

  1. First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
  2. On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

Before we arrive

  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
  • Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time

How we price air source heat pumps

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • How far the pipework has to run, and where
  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders
  • How many units are involved

Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Mention every unit or room you need covered, and you will get one fixed price.

Asking for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The remote or wall controller showing any error
  • The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
  • The paperwork from the last service, if you have it

Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
