Common questions in Greenhithe
Is Greenhithe within the area you cover?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Is the heat pump grant available in Greenhithe?
Greenhithe is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.
Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?
Some radiators may be fine as they are, and some may need to be larger. At the lower temperatures a heat pump uses, radiators need more surface so we check every radiator against the room’s heat loss.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, we work the same way: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for breakdowns that can’t wait. Call 07833 053749 and tell us what’s happened.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we will explain them and stick to the interval they set.
Air source heat pumps in Greenhithe, done properly
Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside, using electricity to drive the process. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both and the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. If the problem is checking whether planning permission is needed and a boiler that’s getting old, we can sort it out.
If your home near Greenhithe has no mains gas, the grant can be bigger. Until March 2027, homes on oil or LPG without mains gas can get an extra £1,500 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. Keep it with the system’s paperwork, because it helps with any later warranty question.

Keeping the system healthy
Aftercare is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Leave indoor units unobstructed
- Book a yearly service
- Let the heat pump run steadily, as set up at handover
Where we applied for a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, we keep you informed through the process since the grant goes through the installer.
Do not cover radiators with furniture or heavy curtains so the heat can get into the room.
How it works
Each visit runs to the same pattern: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, do the work, test what we’ve done and explain it all to you. The visit itself takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. Seeing the property in photos first helps us plan the trip to Greenhithe.
- We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- We install, commission and register the system under MCS.
How to prepare
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Keep pets out of the rooms we are working in
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand

Before you call an engineer
Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.
Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.
Air source heat pumps around Greenhithe
Valuation Office Agency council tax records show about 69% of homes in Greenhithe and the neighbourhoods around it were built in 2000 or later. Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Greenhithe’s centre is no more than about a third of a mile from the Greenhithe Conservation Area. About 24 listed entries lie within half a mile of central Greenhithe, Church of St Mary (grade II) among them. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?
If your home is near Greenhithe for Bluewater station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits. Period properties close to Church of St Mary can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

Leave it or put it right?
The two types suit different homes and needs. Air-to-water heats radiators and hot water, and can attract a £7,500 grant where eligible; air-to-air heats and cools rooms, and only qualifies for £2,500 under strict conditions. We explain which makes sense for you. Getting the date in early helps for a job in a place like Greenhithe.
Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less.
