About our air source heat pumps in Freezywater
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. This is HMRC’s energy-saving materials relief, which applies to homes rather than businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. Please treat this as general information rather than tax advice. We’re often asked to deal with finding a place for the outdoor unit and radiators that may be too small for a heat pump, on underfloor heating, air-to-water heat pumps and hot water cylinders.
If your home near Freezywater has no mains gas, the grant can be bigger. Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas can get an extra £1,500 on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

What the work involves, system by system
VAT on heat pumps
HMRC says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, but each case depends on the facts and the VAT is confirmed on your quote.
Air-to-water heat pumps
Air-to-water systems take heat from the air and put it into your central heating and hot water. It replaces the boiler as the main heat source and we install it to MCS standards.
How the visit works
There’s very little for you to do on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and we take it from there. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you. Seeing the property in photos first helps us plan the trip to Freezywater.
- First we talk through the property and the current system.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
- A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
Getting a quote
Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

What affects the quote in Freezywater
Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
- The size of the job
- What we find on the survey or diagnosis
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is looked at first, and the price is agreed before we start.
What to send for a quote
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
- Your installation or service records
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, ring us on 07833 053749 or email us.

Common questions in Freezywater
Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Freezywater?
It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The centre of Freezywater is in a conservation area. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with Broxbourne council, which is typically the planning authority for Freezywater first.
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Freezywater?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Freezywater, if they qualify. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. That is not optional: it’s required by law, and we hold it.
When will I hear back?
The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?
We find out during the survey. Rooms where the radiator is big enough stay as they are, and any that need upsizing are set out in the quote.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years and we explain the terms for your brand on the quote.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size across London and the South East. Tell us who should receive the paperwork.
