Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Four Ashes

A £2,500 grant is available for some air-to-air heat pumps, with conditions. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. The work covers underfloor heating, hot water cylinders and radiator systems, and people most often call us about checking emitters for a heat pump and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating.

Homes around Four Ashes typically have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. Whatever the brand, the manufacturer’s terms are explained on your quote.

What a heat pump looks like in Four Ashes

At about 29 miles from central London, Four Ashes sits inside the area we cover across London and the South East.

Hughenden Manor, roughly 1 mile west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings. Live in one of the older houses around St Michael and All Angels Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

Safe owner checks

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

Some faults have simple causes you can check first: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and phone us on 07833 053749.

What affects the cost of air source heat pumps

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • The condition of any existing system
  • What kind of system it is
  • The equipment or parts the job needs

Our prices page shows typical ranges, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

Asking for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • The remote or wall controller showing any error
  • The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
  • The rating plate or label on any existing unit

For a fixed-price quote, phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and tell us about the property and what you need. Photos help a lot. You will hear back from us the same working day.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Visits to Four Ashes are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First we talk through the property and the current system.
  2. A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
  3. We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
  4. You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
  5. Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
  • Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Four Ashes

Can I fit a heat pump in Four Ashes without planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The centre of Four Ashes is in the Four Ashes Conservation Area. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where needed, we check with the planning department at Buckinghamshire council, usually the authority for Four Ashes.

Do you cover smaller places like Four Ashes?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Am I eligible for a heat pump grant?

Not every home qualifies, so we check. There’s one grant per property, you can’t get one to replace a low-carbon system, and hybrids are excluded, among other rules.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

What VAT do I pay on a heat pump?

Not on a home installation at the moment: until 31 March 2027 the rate is 0% in residential accommodation, then 5%. Businesses and hotels pay the standard rate, and with air-to-air we confirm the VAT on the quote. This is general information, not tax advice.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, the approach is the same: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.

Why it’s worth doing now in Four Ashes

Replacing a boiler in a hurry when it breaks leaves little time to consider a heat pump. Planning ahead gives time for the heat loss survey, the design and the grant application before you need the heat. Planning ahead for a job in Four Ashes means we can bring everything needed.

The cost depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, the access and the parts and time the job needs. We give you a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.
