Keeping the system healthy

Looking after the system is mostly common sense. A few tips:

  • Report drips, noises or error codes straight away
  • Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter
  • Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends

An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We will remind you when it’s due, so it does not get forgotten.

Clean the filters regularly, not just at the service. Blocked filters cut airflow and make the system work harder, which costs you more to run.

Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Four Ashes

We approach an installation much as a doctor approaches a patient: survey first, install second, commission and hand over last. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. Whether you call it air con, air conditioning or an air-to-air heat pump, it’s the job we do every week across Buckinghamshire.

New circuits are done by our NICEIC approved electricians, so there’s no separate electrician or building control visit to arrange.

Homes around Four Ashes normally have room outside for an outdoor unit. The questions are more often the age of the walls, the electrics and how far the pipes need to run.

Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. Whatever the brand, the manufacturer’s terms are explained on your quote.

System by system

Ducted systems

Ducted units can feed several rooms through a network of ducts, which suits new builds, extensions and refurbishments where ceilings are open.

Wall-mounted split systems

A single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, with supply, fitting, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork included. Long pipe runs, difficult access and a new circuit affect where your job sits in the range.

FAQs for Four Ashes

Will air conditioning in Four Ashes need planning permission?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The centre of Four Ashes is in the Four Ashes Conservation Area. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and is not used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof isn’t allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask the planning department at Buckinghamshire council, usually the authority for Four Ashes.

Is Four Ashes within the area you cover?

Yes. Four Ashes is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Which type of air conditioning is best?

There’s no single best type. A split suits one room, a multi-split several, a ducted system hides the unit, and a cassette spreads air across larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.

How does the warranty work?

It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.

What accreditations do you have?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

Where does the outdoor unit go?

It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

Normally, yes. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.

How the visit works

We keep the work area tidy as we go, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in Four Ashes.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area

Advice

Why deal with it now?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088. Planning ahead for a job in Four Ashes means we can bring everything needed.

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.
