Air source heat pumps in Egypt, done properly
An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme can provide £7,500 towards an eligible air-to-water system in England and Wales, and as the installer we apply for it on your behalf. Not every home qualifies, so we check eligibility before you commit. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, air-to-water heat pumps and underfloor heating, and the jobs we see most are replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating.
Homes around Egypt typically have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Honest limits
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what air source heat pumps won’t do:
- Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
- Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
If in doubt, ring us on 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

- Underfloor heating
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
The process
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. All told, the work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Photos of the room and the outside of the property help us plan a visit to Egypt.
- We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
- Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
- Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.
Getting ready for the visit
- Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
How to get a quote
Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. After that, we send a fixed price before any work starts.
Advice
Homes in Egypt and heat pumps
About 41% of homes in Egypt and the neighbourhoods around it date from 1945 to 1972, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and about 68% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder. About 23 miles out from central London, Egypt is part of the South East area we work across.
If your home is listed, like Cliveden about 3 miles west, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work. If your home is one of the older properties near St John the Evangelist, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

Egypt: your questions answered
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Egypt?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Egypt is in England, where it applies. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.
Is Egypt within the area you cover?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. You get a written record of each visit, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will advise on what to do next.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: sheets over the floor and nearby furniture. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards when we finish.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Either way, keep a record of every service.
How the job changes from property to property
Air-to-water heat pumps
An air-to-water heat pump heats water for your radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water cylinder. It takes over from the boiler and we install it to MCS standards.
Radiators and underfloor heating
Underfloor heating works well with heat pumps because it uses lower temperatures and we look at it during the survey.
Leave it or put it right?
A sudden boiler failure rarely leaves room to plan a heat pump properly. Planning ahead gives time for the heat loss survey, the design and the grant application before you need the heat. Dealing with it now is usually simpler than a breakdown later.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you’re unsure, ring us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier for straight advice and a fixed price.
