Air Source Heat Pumps in Daw's End
Our engineers work in Daw's End on MCS certified installation of air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant applied for. Diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we finish.
- An oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life
- Planning and permitted development questions
- Replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump
What owners can safely do
Owner care supports servicing; it does not replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.
Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
About our air source heat pumps in Daw's End
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it does not apply to businesses. For air-to-air systems, we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. The work covers underfloor heating, air-to-water heat pumps and air-to-air heat pumps, and the jobs we see most are deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home and checking eligibility for a heat pump grant.
In a place like Daw's End, some homes are listed, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.
Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, and we’re happy to talk you through them.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Daw's End
Will you come out to Daw's End?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Daw's End?
Daw's End is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, any time. If something urgent happens, like water coming from a unit or a critical room overheating, call our 24/7 line and we’ll agree what happens next.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?
In England, many air source heat pumps on houses can be permitted development, if the conditions are met. These include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), not being used solely for cooling and not being within the curtilage of a listed building.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
Which brands do you work with?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
What air conditioning won’t do
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Formal advice on VAT for your situation
- Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
- Any gas work on the existing boiler
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly before you book.
What the work covers

How it works
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Visits to Daw's End are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
- Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you are eligible for and the VAT explained.
- Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
- Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
Ask for a quote
Here’s what helps us quote: the address and the type of property, a few photos, the brand and model of anything already fitted and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, call us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Heat pumps in Daw's End: local notes
Valuation Office Agency council tax records show about 35% of homes in and around Daw's End were built in 2000 or later, and about 69% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Better insulated, newer homes are often a good match for a heat pump. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder. Daw's End’s centre is no more than about a third of a mile from the Anstey Conservation Area. On the National Heritage List, around 17 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Daw's End; Church of St George (church of England) (grade I) is one. That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where needed, we check with East Hertfordshire council, normally the planning authority here.
Period properties close to Church of St George can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first. A heat loss calculation decides the size of heat pump your home needs.
