Air source heat pumps in Charlwood

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Charlwood

A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home, using electricity to drive the process. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If the problem is planning and permitted development questions and replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump, we can sort it out.

For a home around Charlwood that’s off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then the work itself, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. For a place like Charlwood, the timing is set with you and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you are eligible for and the VAT explained.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

Advice

What owners can safely do

Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo of the display helps even more.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are typically the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

For landlords and property managers

Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too in Charlwood and across Hampshire. Work can be phased by floor, zone or building around the people who use them.

If you look after several properties, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Every address has its own paperwork, so the files stay tidy.

Questions from Charlwood

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Charlwood?

Charlwood is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Is Charlwood within the area you cover?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.

How does the warranty work?

It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning and we explain the terms for your brand on the quote.

Which type of heat pump is right for my home?

Air-to-water replaces the boiler for heating and hot water, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms, and we help you choose. Both are part of what we install.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what’s needed, where things go and what access we need and the fixed price is built on it.

Which accreditations do you hold?

As the law requires for refrigerant work, we’re an F-Gas certified company. We’re also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and each engineer needs the right qualifications too. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.

Air source heat pumps in Charlwood: the local picture

Valuation Office Agency council tax records show about 32% of homes in and around Charlwood were built in 2000 or later, and about 87% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Newer homes typically lose less heat, which tends to suit a heat pump well. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. About 50 miles out from central London, Charlwood is part of the South East area we work across.

Older homes near Monkwood Mission Church may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. With Bentworth Hall about 4.8 miles north, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

Why act early in Charlwood

If the emitters can’t give out enough heat, some rooms won’t get warm enough. Checking and upsizing them as part of the installation avoids that. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.
