Air source heat pumps in Botley
Air-to-water heat pumps heat your hot water through a cylinder. Homes with a combi boiler may not have a cylinder, so finding space for one is part of the survey. With air-to-air, hot water has to come from something else. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, underfloor heating and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, and the jobs we see most are an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life and moving away from fossil-fuel heating.
For a house near Botley, space outside is rarely the problem, so heat loss, radiators and the electrics are what we check.
Aftercare is simple, and most of it is in the manual: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. That also helps where the warranty terms ask for regular servicing.

What happens if it’s left?
A heat pump sized without a proper heat loss survey can struggle in cold weather or run inefficiently. A room-by-room survey gets it right first time. Small faults tend to grow, so it’s worth dealing with them early.
Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Call for a fixed-price quote and we’ll explain each part.

Botley questions
Can I fit a heat pump in Botley without planning permission?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Botley is a short walk from the Botley Conservation Area. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the planning department at Eastleigh council, typically the authority for Botley first.
Is Botley within the area you cover?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Either way, keep a record of every service.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant?
It depends on your home and the system. The scheme gives £7,500 for eligible air-to-water or ground source systems, and £2,500 for air-to-air only under strict conditions, and we check before you commit.
Are you F-Gas certified?
F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, and we are Checkatrade members. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
Is there a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air?
The air-to-air grant is £2,500, and only some homes qualify. The system has to replace the fossil-fuel heating and heat the whole home, installed by an MCS certified installer.
The process
The work area is kept tidy throughout, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. On site, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Let us know how to reach the outside wall or outdoor unit at your property near Botley.
- First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
- On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
- The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
- We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
- Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the rooms we are working in
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
Ask for a quote
VAT is set out clearly on every quote, with the rate that applies to your job. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. To get one, phone 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.
Advice
What affects the quote in Botley
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
- The condition of any existing system
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
A single unit or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before any work starts, with VAT shown clearly.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
- Your installation or service records
- Wide pictures of the room or the existing unit
For air source heat pumps in Botley, call 07833 053749 or email us. Tell us what kind of property it is and what you’d like done, plus some photos if they’re to hand. We reply the same working day.
Looking after it afterwards
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Check eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme early
- Leave indoor units unobstructed
- Know the servicing conditions in your warranty
Once commissioned, we register the installation with MCS and give you the certificate. File it with the warranty documents for future reference.
Keep insulation and draught-proofing in good order, as lower heat loss means the system has less to do.

Heat pumps in Botley: local notes
VOA council tax data date about 42% of homes in Botley and the neighbourhoods around it to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and about 60% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Homes of that age often have cavity walls that may or may not be insulated, which the survey checks. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Homeowners near Botley station often ask whether a heat pump can take over from the boiler, and the heat loss survey answers that. South Stoneham House, roughly 4.6 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings.
