Air source heat pumps in Baldock
An air-to-water heat pump heats water to a lower temperature than a typical boiler, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes, and the quote sets it out. We are often asked to deal with working out whether radiators need upsizing and questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, across radiator systems, hot water cylinders and underfloor heating.
Homes around Baldock normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder, so the main questions are heat loss, radiators and the electrics.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Let and managed properties
We work for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as homeowners and businesses. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to, and we’ll keep everyone informed.
Records are where property maintenance often slips. Every visit is written up, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, ready for a tenant, a buyer or an inspection.
What we do, step by step
You don’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we have done. Photos of the existing unit and its label help with repairs and servicing near Baldock.
- We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
- A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
- A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
- Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
- We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.
Before we arrive
- Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
- Let us know where we can park and unload
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. For a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Baldock
Can I fit a heat pump in Baldock without planning permission?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The Baldock Conservation Area takes in the middle of Baldock. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where needed, we check with North Hertfordshire council, which is normally the planning authority for Baldock.
Do you cover smaller places like Baldock?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before you book anyone, and we’re happy to show ours.
When will I hear back?
We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.
Do you work on all makes?
We install and work on the leading makes, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.
Is there a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air?
Sometimes, and the amount is £2,500 rather than £7,500. The system has to replace the fossil-fuel heating and heat the whole home with an MCS certified installer.
How long will it take to install a heat pump?
A typical installation takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. We plan the work so you’re without heating for as little time as possible, and we explain it in advance.

Owner checks or an engineer?
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.
