Why it’s worth doing now in Ashmansworth
The extra £1,500 for homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas is available until March 2027. If that applies to you, it’s worth asking about sooner rather than later. Small faults tend to grow, so it’s worth dealing with them early.
A single unit or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before we start, and the quote sets out the VAT.

About our air source heat pumps in Ashmansworth
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it doesn’t apply to businesses. For air-to-air systems, we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. The work covers hot water cylinders, underfloor heating and air-to-air heat pumps, and people most often call us about comparing heat pump types and checking emitters for a heat pump.
Older and listed homes in villages like Ashmansworth need extra care, and permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. File them with the system’s paperwork, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

Hot water cylinders
An air-to-water heat pump heats hot water through a cylinder. Space for the cylinder is part of the survey particularly in homes with a combi boiler.
Radiators and underfloor heating
Any radiator changes are set out in the quote, so the work is clear.
What a heat pump looks like in Ashmansworth
About 83% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Live in one of the older houses around Church of St James? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

What we do, step by step
Every visit follows the same order: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, do the work, check the system and explain it all to you. On site, the work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Work in Ashmansworth is booked in advance at a time that suits you.
- We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
- The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you’re eligible for and the VAT explained.
- Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time

Ashmansworth questions
Do you cover smaller places like Ashmansworth?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Can I fit a heat pump in Ashmansworth without planning permission?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The centre of Ashmansworth is in the Ashmansworth Conservation Area. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with Test Valley council, which is usually the planning authority for Ashmansworth.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
The manufacturer’s warranty, on the manufacturer’s terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.
How long will it take to install a heat pump?
An installation takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. The survey lets us set a firm programme, so ring 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk to arrange one.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. That is not optional: it’s required by law, and we hold it.
What VAT do I pay on a heat pump?
Under HMRC Notice 708/6, a heat pump installed in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5%. With air-to-air, HMRC’s view depends on the product, so we confirm the VAT on the quote.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
When to call us in Ashmansworth
Homes with electric heating sometimes look at heat pumps as an alternative. A survey shows whether a heat pump suits the property and what would need to change along with whether any grant could apply.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump
- Moving away from fossil-fuel heating
- Comparing heat pump types
With Highclere Castle about 1.9 miles north-east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.
Questions to ask before you book
- How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected
- Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
