Ashwell commercial air conditioning
We cover Ashwell for commercial air conditioning. Diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we finish.

How we handle commercial air conditioning in Ashwell
The right system depends on the building. Splits for small rooms, cassettes for open-plan ceilings, ducted for a hidden finish and VRF or VRV for many zones on one system. We explain the options and why we’d choose one over another. We are often asked to deal with IT rooms that need resilient cooling and fit-outs and refurbishments that need new air conditioning, across ducted systems, wall-mounted split systems and server and comms room cooling.
For a business near Ashwell, there’s normally space for plant at the rear, which keeps them tidy and easy to reach.
We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings across Hertfordshire. Larger buildings can be done in stages around the people who use them.
Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We can quote either party and send the records to whoever needs them.
Signs you need commercial air conditioning in Ashwell
Older systems running on R410A face rising costs for top-ups as the GB HFC phase-down tightens supply. Servicing and repairing R410A systems is still allowed though it’s worth bearing in mind when planning ahead.
What we are most often called about:
- Comms rooms without enough cooling
- F-gas leak checks and records that are overdue
- Fit-outs and refurbishments that need new air conditioning
If you look after a church or hall such as St Mary's Church, an air-to-air system that warms up quickly can suit a building used on and off, subject to the right consents.
What your quote should include
- What paperwork you’ll receive afterwards
- Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
- If the quote is based on a survey, photos or a diagnosis
Common questions in Ashwell
Will air conditioning in Ashwell need planning permission?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The Ashwell Conservation Area takes in the middle of Ashwell. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones cannot, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact the local planning authority (for Ashwell, normally North Hertfordshire council).
Will you come out to Ashwell?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Can I do any of the installation myself?
Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
How are commercial air conditioning installs priced?
A survey comes first, then a fixed-price quote. Factors include the number of areas, the system type, access and any out-of-hours or phased work.
What does the operator have to do under the F-gas rules?
The operator and the service technicians share responsibility. The operator must make sure leak checks are done where required and records are kept, and we provide both.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
How the visit works
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we show you what we’ve done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes from a couple of days for a few cassettes to a planned programme for a whole building. We plan the visit to Ashwell from the survey or your pictures.
- You tell us about the building and what’s needed.
- A site survey confirms the heat load, the layout and the access.
- The options, cost and timing are set out in a fixed-price quote.
- We install around your hours, phased where needed.
- We commission it, hand it over and can set up a maintenance contract.
How to prepare
- Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
Ask for a quote
Quotes don’t take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

Before you call an engineer
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
A customer’s words
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
