Air conditioning in The Sands

How we handle air conditioning in The Sands

The best installations are planned before a single hole is drilled. We look at each room’s size, glazing, orientation and use, then agree where the indoor and outdoor units go and how the pipework, cable and condensate drain will run before you get a fixed-price quote. Modern air conditioning heats as well as cools: in heating mode they work as an air-to-air heat pump, so a system bought for summer earns its keep in winter too.

Villages like The Sands often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. We check that first, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, and the outdoor unit position is chosen to suit the building.

Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

For landlords and property managers

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.

We work for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as homeowners and businesses. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to, and we will keep everyone informed.

Why it’s worth doing now in The Sands

The best time to plan air conditioning is before the hot weather, not during it. A rushed choice is often the wrong size or in the wrong place, and that’s hard to put right later. A survey now gives time to choose properly. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Air conditioning in The Sands: local notes

About 34 miles out from central London, The Sands is part of the South East area we work across. About 43% of homes in The Sands and the neighbourhoods around it date from 1945 to 1972, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and about 41% of households live in terraced houses, according to the 2021 Census. We check the wall construction on homes of that age, as it decides how the pipework goes through. With a terrace, the back wall or an extension roof is normally the best place for the outdoor unit.

Living close to The Church of the Good Shepherd? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. With historic houses such as Farnham Castle about 2.8 miles west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.

The Sands is about 2 miles east of Farnham, in Surrey. From the centre of The Sands to the outskirts, we cover air conditioning, from a single room to a whole building. Our Surrey coverage runs to 395 places, and The Sands is one of them. Guildford, roughly 8 miles off, has its own page on this site.

Not far from The Sands, a recent job of ours was on Castle Street, Farnham (GU9), about 2 miles west: installing a Fujitsu multi-split system serving three offices and a client meeting room. Read more

The Sands questions

Do you cover The Sands for air conditioning?

Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and The Sands is part of that. Get in touch with the details and we reply the same working day.

Is The Sands within the area you cover?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

What size air conditioning unit do I need?

It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it and the survey covers each of them.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will talk you through the next steps.

How long does air conditioning installation take?

Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access and the quote says how long to expect.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

What we do, step by step

Everything the job needs comes with us, from tools and test equipment to ladders and dust sheets. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. The visit takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. Seeing the property in pictures first means the trip to The Sands can be planned properly.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Tell us about parking and loading

Getting a quote

Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we have looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, call 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

From one of our customers

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
