Air conditioning in St Mary's

How we handle air conditioning in St Mary's

Air conditioning isn’t only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust makes the same point: an air-to-air heat pump is what many people simply call air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. Most enquiries from St Mary's start with one hot room: a bedroom, a home office or a loft conversion. A single-room split system is often the answer, from £1,200 + VAT.

A cottage and a newer house near St Mary's are very different jobs. Thick walls and beams mean planning the pipe route carefully, and a listed home needs consent before anything is fixed to it.

We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

Air conditioning in St Mary's: local notes

At about 1 mile from the coast, St Mary's is close enough for sea air to matter. Some manufacturers offer anti-corrosion coated coils for coastal sites, and we’ll tell you if the model you choose has that option. VOA council tax data show about 40% of homes across St Mary's and its surrounding area were built in 2000 or later, and the 2021 Census found about 77% of households live in flats. Newer homes typically have cavity walls and loft space that make pipe runs easier, though some estates have planning conditions or covenants worth checking. In flats, the lease and the freeholder usually decide where an outdoor unit can go, and the permitted development rules for flats are tighter. In the mile around St Mary's’s centre, 8 conservation areas have been designated. Tudor House Museum, listed at grade I, is one of roughly 49 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around St Mary's’s centre. If your property is listed or sits inside a conservation area, expect us to raise planning at the survey and to speak to Southampton council, usually the planning authority here where it’s needed.

If you commute from Southampton Central station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.

Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in St Mary's

Your quote is based on your property. We take into account:

  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
  • Whether the existing supply is suitable

One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You’ll have a fixed price before any work starts, with VAT shown clearly.

Helping us quote

Good photos often save a visit. The most useful are:

  • Your installation or service records
  • Any error code or flashing light on the display
  • The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area

St Mary's questions

Do you cover smaller places like St Mary's?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in St Mary's?

It can. St Mary's is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

It can, for some brands. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we will explain them, and book the service at the interval they recommend.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. You get a fixed price before any work starts.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

The process

If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before work begins, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can usually work room by room or zone by zone. On site, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Tell us about any gates or steps at your property near St Mary's when you book.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the rooms we are working in
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Add the address and what you’d like done, and many jobs can be priced from that.

When to call us in St Mary's

Rooms overheat mostly because of heat they gain during the day. Sunshine through glazing, especially on south and west-facing rooms, adds a lot of heat, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.

It’s time to call us if you’re dealing with:

  • An office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers
  • Fans and portables that do not keep up
  • Bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer

If your home is in one of the older streets near St Mary's Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the electrical work is done by a registered contractor, such as NICEIC approved
  • Whether testing, commissioning and paperwork are included
  • Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved

How to choose an air conditioning engineer

Safe owner checks

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Keep a note of anything odd: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo of the display helps even more.

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
