What air conditioning will not do

Air conditioning can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before work begins. It doesn’t solve:

  • Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
  • A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)
  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation

If in doubt, ring us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we will say what we think.

What we work on in Snargate

  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Multi-split systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • VRF systems
  • Ducted systems

Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Snargate

Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, with VRF for larger buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be, and we explain the options on the survey. Whether you call it air con, air conditioning or an air-to-air heat pump, it’s the job we do every week across Kent.

Planning permission is not usually needed for a house if the unit qualifies as permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and flats often need consent first: we tell you at the survey if it applies.

Space outside is rarely the problem in a place like Snargate. The questions are more often the age of the walls, the electrics and how far the pipes need to run.

Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we set them out on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

How the job changes from property to property

Pipework and condensate drains

Between the units run the refrigerant pipes, the control cable and the condensate drain. The route is agreed before any drilling, and keep it as short and neat as the building allows.

Ceiling cassettes

Cassettes need space above the ceiling and a route for the condensate, with a condensate pump where the drain cannot fall naturally. The survey confirms the void and the drain route.

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from tools and test equipment to ladders and dust sheets. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Somewhere like Snargate, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
  4. Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

How to prepare

  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Mention any parking restrictions near the property
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits

Getting a price

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Add the address and what you’d like done, and many jobs can be priced from that.

What owners can safely do

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and call us on 07833 053749 or send an email.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

FAQs for Snargate

Will you come out to Snargate?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Is Snargate in your area for air conditioning?

We do: Snargate falls inside our working area. Tell us a little about the job and we will take it from there.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

How do I know what size unit to get?

Floor area is only part of it. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it, and we take them all into account on the survey.

Why does F-Gas certification matter?

The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and each engineer needs the right qualifications too. It means the refrigerant in your system is handled legally.

Is the equipment covered by a warranty?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some brands make regular servicing a condition, so keep your service records.

Which brands do you work with?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.

Homes in Snargate and air conditioning

The last census (2021) found about 81% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Houses normally have a side or rear wall with room for the outdoor unit, and a multi-split can serve several rooms from one outdoor unit. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 5 within half a mile of the centre, such as Church of St Dunstan (grade II*). None of this rules air conditioning out. It just means the planning position is checked before anyone suggests a spot for the outdoor unit.

Around Church of St Dunstan, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install. Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are usually the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
