What affects the cost of air conditioning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • The size of the job
  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle
  • Which make and model is being fitted or worked on

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Before you get in touch

A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
  • Any previous service or F-Gas records

Here’s what helps us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, a few photos, the make and model of any existing system and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Once you have those, ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

About our air conditioning in Singleton

Air conditioning isn’t only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust makes the same point: an air-to-air heat pump is what many people simply call air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Most split systems we fit in Singleton are reversible: the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes called air conditioning, so a system bought for summer earns its keep in winter too.

Homes around Singleton usually have room outside for an outdoor unit. The questions are more often the age of the walls, the electrics and how far the pipes need to run.

Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, as a manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

Homes in Singleton and air conditioning

About 71% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. With homes like that, finding a sensible outdoor unit position is rarely hard, and a multi-split lets two or more rooms run off it. The Singleton Conservation Area lies close to the centre of Singleton, within about a third of a mile. There are 2 conservation areas within a mile of the centre of Singleton. The Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, listed at grade I, is one of roughly 43 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Singleton’s centre. Before any outdoor unit is fixed here, we find out whether the building is protected. Where it is, the planning team at Chichester council, which typically handles Singleton has the final say on what’s allowed.

Older streets near The Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. With historic houses such as West Dean House about 1.2 miles west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.

What owners can safely do

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

Keep a note of anything odd: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo of the display helps even more.

Common questions in Singleton

Do you cover Singleton for air conditioning?

Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and Singleton is part of that. Get in touch with the details and we reply the same working day.

Is Singleton within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

How does the warranty work?

The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. If a lane or gateway near Singleton is tight for a van, let us know and we’ll plan for it.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow

What air conditioning can’t fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
  • Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)

If you are not sure, just phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.
