What air conditioning cannot fix
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what air conditioning won’t do:
- Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators
- Building damp that has a structural cause
- An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
If you’re not sure, just ring 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Shepherd's Green
Single-room systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, two rooms on a multi-split £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Those ranges include supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, and commercial VRF systems are priced after a survey. Most split systems we fit in Shepherd's Green are reversible: in heating mode they work as an air-to-air heat pump, so a system bought for summer earns its keep in winter too.
The electrics are part of the job: a dedicated circuit where the unit needs one, certified under NICEIC, so the electrical paperwork comes with the installation.
Villages like Shepherd's Green often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. We check that first, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building.
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

How it works
Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can usually work room by room or zone by zone. The work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. Visits to Shepherd's Green are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
- We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
- On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.
Getting ready for the visit
- Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working

Advice
Shepherd's Green questions
Is Shepherd's Green within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Shepherd's Green?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The Shepherd's Green Conservation Area takes in the middle of Shepherd's Green. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones cannot, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact South Oxfordshire council, which is normally the planning authority for Shepherd's Green.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That is the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.
How much does air conditioning installation cost?
Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. The price includes supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation and is fixed after a survey or from pictures.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
Which brands do you work with?
The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and explain why.
System by system
Wall-mounted split systems
A wall-mounted split is the most common choice for a single room. One unit inside, one outside, connected by pipework, a cable and a drain, routed as agreed on the survey.
Ceiling cassettes
Cassettes are good at even airflow across a large floor area with just a grille visible in the ceiling.

What an install looks like in Shepherd's Green
VOA council tax data date about 47% of homes in and around Shepherd's Green to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and the 2021 Census found about 84% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. We check the wall construction on homes of that age, as it decides how the pipework goes through. Houses typically have a side or rear wall with room for the outdoor unit, and a multi-split can serve several rooms from one outdoor unit.
Older streets near Church of St Nicholas may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. Greys Court, about 0.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

Landmarks near Shepherd's Green
Typical jobs here are in properties near Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge and The Lamb pub and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Henley-On-Thames station, about 3.2 miles east. Leave it or put it right?
New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant can’t use F gases with a GWP above 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088. A system that is left with a fault, or without a service, typically costs more to run.
A single unit or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.
