Air conditioning near Radley

Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Radley

Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust makes the same point: an air-to-air heat pump is what many people simply call air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Every installation in Radley begins with a look at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote that names the make and model.

In a village like Radley, many homes are older, and some are listed. That matters, because a listed home needs consent and permitted development rules don’t apply to it, and the outdoor unit position is chosen to suit the building.

Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

Rented and managed buildings

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system and we’re happy to deal with whoever it is.

Records are where property maintenance often slips. Each visit produces a dated record, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, ready for a tenant, a buyer or an inspection.

Air conditioning in Radley: local notes

Census 2021 figures found about 77% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. A side passage or back wall normally gives the outdoor unit a home, and more than one bedroom can be cooled through a multi-split. Historic England lists about 14 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Radley, including Church of St James (grade II*). Before any outdoor unit is fixed here, we find out whether the building is protected. Where it is, the planning team at Vale of White Horse council, which typically handles Radley has the final say on what’s allowed.

If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St James, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. Plenty of people near Radley station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit.

Radley is about 2 miles north-east of Abingdon-on-Thames, in Oxfordshire. Radley gets the same approach as every job we take on: diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we’ve finished. Our Oxfordshire coverage runs to 443 places, and Radley is one of them. For properties nearby, see our Guildford page (42 miles or so).

Jobs in OX14 are looked at, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Whether you are on Church Road, Selwyn Crescent and Ferny Close or anywhere close by, we can help. How the visit works

Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first so it doesn’t catch you out. For businesses, we can normally work room by room or zone by zone. On site, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. We plan the trip to Radley around you.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

What the work involves, system by system

Ducted systems

A ducted system needs a ceiling void or loft deep enough for the unit and ducts, and access for servicing. The survey confirms whether there’s room.

Wall-mounted split systems

For one room, a wall-mounted split is often the simplest answer. The indoor unit sits high on a wall, the outdoor unit goes outside, and the two are joined by insulated pipework, a cable and a condensate drain, routed as agreed on the survey.

What owners can safely do

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

Your questions about air conditioning in Radley

Is Radley in your area for air conditioning?

We do: Radley falls inside our working area. Just phone us on 07833 053749 or send an email with a few details.

Do you cover smaller places like Radley?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Is the equipment covered by a warranty?

The manufacturer’s warranty, on the manufacturer’s terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.

How do I know what size unit to get?

Floor area is only part of it. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count, and we take them all into account on the survey.

How much is air conditioning for one room?

A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, with supply, fitting, commissioning and F-Gas documentation included. You get a fixed price before any work starts.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Every job is looked at first, either on a site survey or from photos and details for simple jobs. Then you get a fixed-price quote.

Will you need to do electrical work?

Most of the time, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and we’re NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.

A customer’s words

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
