Air conditioning near Gravesend

What an install looks like in Gravesend

Gravesend lies within about 2 miles of the sea. That’s worth knowing for an install, as salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor coils and fixings, so we choose the position and fixings with that in mind. About 35% of households live in terraced houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Terraces have little side access, so the outdoor unit normally goes on the rear wall or a flat roof, with the pipe run kept short.

Older streets near Christ Church Milton may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. If you commute from Gravesend station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.

How we handle air conditioning in Gravesend

Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. Most enquiries from Gravesend start with one hot room: a bedroom, a home office or a loft conversion. A single-room split system is often the answer, from £1,200 + VAT.

Air conditioning in a town like Gravesend typically means a house, sometimes a flat or a converted building in the centre. People usually start with the room that gets hottest: a bedroom, a home office or a conservatory, and a multi-split can add more rooms later.

The records are your system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer, so keep it safe.

Why deal with it now?

Refrigerant rules have changed what new systems use. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant cannot use F gases with a GWP above 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you are unsure, phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we will give you an honest view and a fixed price.

What the work involves, system by system

Electrical supply

A dedicated circuit is normally needed. As NICEIC approved contractors, we install it and issue the certificate and that covers the Part P side.

Wall-mounted split systems

A single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. Where you sit in that range depends on the pipe run, access and electrics.

What happens on the day

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. On site, the work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. We book visits in Gravesend at a time that suits you, and business work around your hours.

  1. You send pictures, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
  • Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit

Get a fixed-price quote

Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Owner care supports servicing; it does not replace it. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

FAQs for Gravesend

Is air conditioning in Gravesend permitted development?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The half-mile around the middle of Gravesend holds about 18 listed buildings and structures. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones can’t, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact the planning department at Gravesham council, usually the authority for Gravesend.

Is Gravesend in your area for air conditioning?

Yes, Gravesend is within the area we cover. Get in touch with the details and we reply the same working day.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we will tell you what to do first.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Every job is looked at first, on a survey, or from your photos and details where the job is simple. A fixed-price quote follows.

How does the warranty work?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.

Which type of system should I choose?

It depends on the rooms and the building. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. We recommend one on the survey and explain why.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, usually whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.

A customer’s words

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
