Air conditioning in Dorchester

Air conditioning in Dorchester

Across Dorchester, every installation follows the same steps: a site survey, or photos for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. You know the price before we start and the paperwork is in your hands when we finish. Air conditioning installation in Dorchester starts with a site survey, followed by a fixed-price quote with the brand, model and every part of the job set out.

Space outside is rarely the problem in a place like Dorchester. The questions are more often the age of the walls, the electrics and how far the pipes need to run.

Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we set them out on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, and we are happy to talk you through them.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in Dorchester.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
  2. The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
  3. Brackets go on, the units are hung and the refrigerant lines, cable and drain are routed between them.
  4. Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
  5. The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit

Get a fixed-price quote

Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we have looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To start, phone us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

Advice

Common problems we fix in Dorchester

Many people try a portable unit first. A portable unit has to vent its warm air through a hose out of a window, which lets some heat back in, and its compressor sits in the room with you. A fixed split system puts the compressor outside.

What we are most often called about:

  • Working from home in a room that gets too warm
  • A room that is unbearable on warm days
  • Rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night

Living close to Dorchester Abbey? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

Questions to ask before you book

What owners can safely do

Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

When something else is needed

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators
  • Draughts and missing insulation
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling

If in doubt, call us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Ducted systems

Dorchester: your questions answered

Can I fit air conditioning in Dorchester without planning permission?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The Dorchester Conservation Area takes in the middle of Dorchester. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and isn’t used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof is not allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask South Oxfordshire council, which is typically the planning authority for Dorchester.

Do you cover Dorchester for air conditioning?

We do: Dorchester falls inside our working area. To start, phone us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few photos.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we’ll suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

Are you F-Gas certified?

We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
