Villages like Colt's Hill often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. We check that first, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and the outdoor unit position is chosen to suit the building.
Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

What we are called out for in Colt's Hill
Bedrooms that are too warm at night are a frequent reason for a call. An open window doesn’t always cool a bedroom that has warmed up all day, particularly when there’s no breeze.
Reasons to give us a call include:
- An old system that needs replacing
- Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient
- Fans and portables that do not keep up
Starting with one room is common, and the outdoor unit can be chosen with more rooms in mind.

FAQs for Colt's Hill
Do you cover Colt's Hill for air conditioning?
We do: Colt's Hill falls inside our working area. To start, phone 07833 053749 or send an email with a few photos.
Will air conditioning in Colt's Hill need planning permission?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. A conservation area takes in the middle of Colt's Hill. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit isn’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with Tunbridge Wells council, which is normally the planning authority for Colt's Hill.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. That is not optional: it’s required by law, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Do I need a new electrical circuit?
In most cases, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and we are NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.
Which brands do you work with?
We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?
Typically, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
That depends on the brand. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.
After we’ve gone
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
- Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
- Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter
An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make regular servicing a condition of their warranty. We can remind you when it’s due if you’d like.
Set it and leave it. A moderate set temperature cools the room just as well as the lowest one, without the waste, and close windows and doors while it’s cooling.
When it’s something else
Not every problem is solved by air conditioning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:
- Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
- Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 07833 053749 and we will tell you honestly before booking.
Parts of the system we cover

How the visit works
Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. Somewhere like Colt's Hill, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.
- You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
- The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
- Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
- Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
- The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.
Before we arrive
- Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
