- Smells coming from the indoor unit
About our air conditioning servicing in Waterside
We are asked to service systems for many different reasons: smells at start-up, a unit that struggles on hot days, drips from the indoor unit, or a service that is overdue. Whatever the reason, the visit follows the same thorough checks. If you are dealing with an unpleasant odour when the system runs and new noises from the indoor or outdoor unit, we can help.
We plan the trip to Waterside and can service more than one unit in one visit.
Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of their warranty. Where yours does, a regular service with us keeps that side in order and each visit is recorded.

What happens on the day
Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first so it does not catch you out. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. On site, it takes a short visit for one split system, longer for multi-split, ducted or commercial plant. A few photos help us make the most of a visit to Waterside.
- First we take the details: brand, model if you have it, how many indoor units and anything that is been bothering you.
- The engineer switches the system on and checks how it behaves before taking anything apart.
- Filters, coils and the condensate drain are cleaned and cleared.
- Electrical connections, controls and refrigerant performance are checked, with an F-gas leak check where the system requires one.
- A service record follows, with any faults and the options for fixing them.
Before we arrive
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
How to get a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

When something else is needed
We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:
- Heat from large windows, roof spaces or equipment beyond the system’s capacity
- Parts that have failed and need replacing
- A refrigerant leak, which needs finding and repairing, not topping up
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 and we’ll say what we think.

Keeping systems in Waterside running
About 26 miles out from central London, Waterside is part of the South East area we work across. Draw a one-mile circle round the middle of Waterside and it takes in 2 conservation areas. On the National Heritage List, around 9 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Waterside; Christ Church (grade II) is one. For most visits that makes no difference. It only comes up when an outdoor unit has to be replaced on a protected building.
Booking before the first hot spell means the system is ready when you need it. If you look after a school such as Waterside Primary Academy, servicing is easiest in the holidays.

How the job changes from property to property
Refrigerant performance and leak checks
The engineer looks at how well the system is moving heat, using temperatures and pressures to see whether it’s working as it should. If the readings suggest gas has been lost, we explain what that means.
Indoor and outdoor coils
The outdoor coil does the same job on the other side of the system. It collects garden debris and dirt and we clean it and make sure the air can flow.
Waterside questions
How often do you service systems in Waterside?
For most homes, once a year. Check your manufacturer’s warranty terms too, as some of them make regular servicing a condition.
Do you cover smaller places like Waterside?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
How much time does an air con service need?
It takes around an hour for one indoor and one outdoor unit, with extra time for each additional indoor unit. The number of indoor units and how easy they are to reach make the biggest difference, and we’ll give you an idea when we book.
Owner checks or an engineer?
Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or email us.
From one of our customers
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
