Air conditioning servicing in Tidworth

Air conditioning servicing for homes and businesses in Tidworth

Some systems need F-gas leak checks by law, and some do not. GOV.UK sets the frequency by the system’s tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e): at least every 12 months from 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 to under 500 tCO2e. We work out where your system sits and check it accordingly. Common call-outs are for F-gas leak checks falling due and noisy fans or rattling from the outdoor unit, on multi-split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes.

A yearly service suits most systems around Tidworth, and regular servicing can be a condition of some manufacturers’ warranties.

The records are your system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer and it’s worth keeping safe.

What a service looks like in Tidworth

About 43% of homes across Tidworth and its surrounding area have been built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records. Tell us where your outdoor unit is and how to reach it, so we can plan the visit. On the National Heritage List, around 10 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Tidworth; Church of the Holy Trinity (grade II*) is one. We keep it in mind in case a new outdoor unit is ever needed, as protected buildings can need consent for that.

If you can’t remember the last service, it’s probably due. If you look after a school such as The Wellington Academy, servicing is easiest in the holidays.

How the job changes from property to property

Wall-mounted, ducted and cassette units

Ducted units sit out of sight in ceiling voids. Servicing means reaching the unit through an access hatch so it helps to know where the access is before we arrive.

Refrigerant performance and leak checks

F-gas leak checks are required for systems from 5 tCO2e upwards, at least yearly up to 50 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 to under 500 tCO2e. Hermetically sealed systems under 10 tCO2e are exempt.

How the visit works

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we let you know if plans need to move. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes anything from an hour for a simple split system to most of a day for a larger installation. We load the van from the survey notes so the work in Tidworth can be done in one go where possible.

  1. We start with the details of the system and anything you’ve noticed.
  2. Each indoor unit has its covers lifted so the filters, coil and tray can be cleaned.
  3. The outdoor unit gets its own clean, with leaves and debris cleared away.
  4. Readings are taken on the electrics and refrigerant circuit, and the controls are tried in each mode.
  5. We explain what we found and price any repair before it’s done.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
  • Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need

Getting a price

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

After we’ve gone

To keep the system working properly:

  • Clean the filters between services, as the manual describes
  • Hold on to every service report
  • Diary the next service before this one is forgotten

When we finish, we leave a record of the visit, with the checks carried out and anything we’d recommend. File it with the system’s manual and warranty documents so the service history is in one place.

Give the outdoor unit room to breathe. Leaves, garden waste, bins and climbing plants all restrict the airflow, so clear them back.

Tidworth: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Tidworth?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Is Tidworth in your area for air conditioning servicing?

Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and Tidworth is part of that. To start, ring 07833 053749 or email us with a few photos.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. For simple jobs, photos and a few details can be enough, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

Do you protect the property while you work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.

What does an annual air con service cost?

£95–£150 + VAT covers the annual service, confirmed before we book. Any repair is priced separately and only done with your agreement.

Before you call an engineer

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do, if the manual says so. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
