When air con fails in The Common

About 41 miles out from central London, The Common is part of the South East area we work across. About 9 listed entries lie within half a mile of central The Common, Numbers 1-4 Thatched Cottages (grade II) among them. Should a unit ever need replacing on a listed building or in a conservation area, ask us about consent first.

A photo of the error code and the unit’s rating label helps us plan the repair. Schools such as Radwinter Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School can report a fault on the 24/7 line and have non-urgent work done out of term.

Air conditioning repair for homes and businesses in The Common

For breakdowns that cannot wait, there’s a 24/7 emergency line, such as a server room overheating or water coming through a ceiling. Call 07833 053749 and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will agree the next steps. The work covers VRF systems, ceiling cassettes and multi-split systems, and the jobs we see most are a suspected refrigerant leak and a flashing light and a system that won’t run.

We plan the trip to The Common so the repair can be finished in one visit where possible, though some parts have to be ordered from the manufacturer.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. File it with the manual so it’s to hand next time.

What we do, step by step

If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before we start so it does not catch you out. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. The work takes anything from an hour or so to a full day, depending on the fault and the parts. Seeing the property in pictures first means the trip to The Common can be planned properly.

  1. Tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and send a photo of the display if you can.
  2. We diagnose on site, checking the codes, electrics, airflow, drain and refrigerant pressures.
  3. Nothing is repaired until you’ve heard what’s wrong and agreed a fixed price.
  4. We repair the fault, and where refrigerant is involved, the leak is found and fixed before recharging.
  5. Before leaving, we run it through its modes and write up what was found and done.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is

Advice

FAQs for The Common

Is there an emergency air con repair line for The Common?

The emergency line is open around the clock, and The Common is one of the places it covers. Tell us the make, model and any error code when you call; repair call-outs start from £75 + VAT.

Is The Common within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Why is my air conditioning showing a fault code?

Each manufacturer uses its own codes, and one code can have more than one cause. Send us a photo of the display with the make and model, and we’ll diagnose the fault on site.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It means the refrigerant in your system is handled legally.

Why is my air conditioning leaking water?

Most leaks come from a blocked drain, a failed pump or a unit that has dropped out of level. Ice on the coil from low airflow or low refrigerant can also melt and drip. Turn it off and call 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Can you still repair R410A air conditioning?

Yes. Repairing and recharging existing R410A systems is still legal. R410A is getting scarcer and dearer to buy as the GB phase-down tightens, so for older systems we compare the cost of a repair with a replacement.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

How we price air conditioning repair

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but your price depends on the job in front of us. For a fixed-price quote, ring 07833 053749 or send an email, and we will talk you through it.

Helping us quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
  • Any error code or flashing light on the display

Want a quote for air conditioning repair? Please call 07833 053749 or drop us a line and tell us about the job. We will talk you through the options and give you a fixed-price quote before you commit to anything.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and call us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Different systems, different jobs

Wall-mounted split systems

The single split is the most common system we are called to. Drains, coils, fans, sensors and leaks account for many of the faults, and most are diagnosed on the first visit.

Fans and compressors

Fan motors and bearings wear over time, and the first sign is often noise or weak airflow. Indoor and outdoor fan motors can normally be replaced, depending on parts availability.

A customer’s words

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
