FAQs for Ripple

Is Ripple within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Does being near the sea make a difference to air conditioning repair in Ripple?

It can, as Ripple is within about 3 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. Corrosion on the outdoor unit is one of the things we check when we diagnose a fault.

Which accreditations do you hold?

As the law requires for refrigerant work, we’re an F-Gas certified company. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.

How quickly will you reply?

The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

What can I do with an old R22 system?

Replacement is usually the better answer. New R22 can’t be used to service systems, and parts for older units are getting harder to find, so we’ll quote for a modern replacement and explain why.

Is it legal to repair an R410A system?

Yes. Repairing and recharging existing R410A systems is still legal. R410A is getting scarcer and dearer to buy as the GB phase-down tightens, so for older systems we compare the cost of a repair with a replacement.

How much does an air conditioning repair cost?

It starts with a diagnosis call-out from £75 + VAT, followed by a fixed price for the repair. You decide before any repair work starts.

Air conditioning repair for homes and businesses in Ripple

We repair air conditioning on all the main brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Systems fitted by other installers are fine too, so tell us the make and model if you know it. Common call-outs are for a system that runs but doesn’t cool the room and a system that won’t switch on, across ducted systems, heat pumps and multi-split systems.

A visit to Ripple is planned so we can typically finish in one go, unless a part has to come from the manufacturer.

We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

Looking after your system

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Rule out the simple causes first: filter, mode and temperature
  • Turn the system off if it’s dripping water
  • Send us a photo of any code on the display

Where a repair isn’t worth doing, we say so, with the reasons. We can quote for a replacement system on the same visit where that is the better answer.

Sensible use helps. Choose the right mode and a moderate set temperature, and keep doors and windows closed while it runs, so it is not running flat out all day.

What we do, step by step

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. On the day, both are in the same hands. On site, it takes an hour or two to diagnose most faults, with the repair time depending on what we find. Somewhere like Ripple, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.

  1. Diagnosis comes first: codes, electrics, airflow, drain and refrigerant.
  2. Prescribe: tell you the cause and the fixed cost of the cure.
  3. If the repair isn’t worth doing, we say so and explain the options.
  4. Then the fix, with leaks repaired before any refrigerant is added.
  5. Finally, a check that it’s working and a record of what we did.

Advice

When air con fails in Ripple

The coast is only about 3 miles from Ripple. Corroded fins, fixings and electrical connections on outdoor units are more common near the sea, and they can cause faults. The 2021 Census found about 65% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Access to the outdoor unit is the one detail that most changes how a visit is planned. Ripple’s centre falls inside a designated conservation area. Historic England lists about 13 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Ripple, including Church of St Mary the Virgin (grade II*). We keep it in mind in case a new outdoor unit is ever needed, as protected buildings can need consent for that.

Schools such as St Mary's Catholic Primary School can report a fault on the 24/7 line and have non-urgent work done out of term. If the display shows a code, write it down: it helps narrow down the fault.

What owners can safely do

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are usually the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Honest limits

In fairness, some problems need a different answer:

  • Cooling that falls short because the system is too small
  • An R22 system that has lost its refrigerant
  • Heat gains the system was never designed for

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly.
