About Samsung air conditioning

Samsung’s heating and cooling business, Samsung Climate Solutions, supplies air conditioning for homes and businesses in the UK, along with EHS air-to-water heat pumps and DVM VRF systems. Its UK product pages put the emphasis on comfort features and app control, which suits people who already run a smart home.

Like other leading brands, Samsung is sold through installers. We supply and fit the equipment, commission it and complete the F-Gas records.

Wall-mounted units for homes

Samsung’s best-known domestic units use a cooling mode that spreads air through thousands of tiny holes in the front panel instead of blowing it straight out of the vent. Samsung calls the result “Still Air”: the room stays cool without a cold draught on your skin. It’s a good option for anyone who dislikes the feel of air conditioning, for bedrooms and for desks that sit in the airflow.

As an example, Samsung’s UK product information for its Avant S2 wall unit lists:

• 23,000 micro-holes for the gentle cooling mode;
• R32 refrigerant (the 2.0 kW model holds 0.95 kg, which Samsung shows as 0.64 tCO2e);
• a three-layer Tri-Care filter, plus Auto Clean and Good Sleep modes;
• a solar-charged remote with a USB-C port;
• Wi-Fi with SmartThings for remote on/off, schedules and energy monitoring.

Samsung has several ranges at different price points. Indoor units can also run on a multi-split where you want more than one room on one outdoor unit. We confirm the current models on your quote.

Commercial and heat pump ranges

For business premises, Samsung’s 360 Cassette is a circular ceiling unit that spreads air evenly all the way round, which looks smart in a shop, café or open-plan office. Larger sites can use DVM, Samsung’s VRF range; Samsung recommends its compact DVM S Eco for offices. Our VRF page explains how these systems are designed.

SmartThings and controls

Samsung’s SmartThings app (Android and iOS) is one of the main reasons people choose the brand. You can switch the system on, change modes, set schedules and track energy use with SmartThings Energy, and Samsung says it works with leading voice assistants. Warranty on Samsung air conditioning is Samsung’s, and the terms can vary by product and by how the system is installed and registered. Samsung’s product pages don’t set out the full terms, so we explain the manufacturer’s warranty that applies to your system on your quote. Getting the best from Samsung’s gentle cooling

Samsung’s three-step approach is to cool the room quickly first, then switch to the gentle micro-hole mode to hold the temperature. That works best when the unit is sized properly for the room. An undersized unit spends most of its time in fast mode and you lose the benefit; an oversized one cycles on and off. We size from the survey, taking account of sunny windows, ceilings and how many people use the room. Position matters too: the gentle mode is at its best when the unit isn’t fighting a heat source right beside it, such as a radiator or a television. Keep the filters clean, and use the app’s schedules so the room is cool before you need it rather than starting from hot.

Strengths and things to consider

Strengths: the micro-hole cooling mode is a real point of difference; SmartThings is polished and widely used; and Samsung covers homes, shops and larger buildings.

Things to consider: the gentle mode is designed for holding a temperature, so a hot room cools fastest in the normal mode first; ranges and model names change often, so compare like with like; and if you don’t want app features, a simpler unit from another brand may do the job for less. Installation, servicing and repairs

A single-room split costs £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, a 2-room multi-split £2,800–£4,500 + VAT and a 3–5 room multi-split £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. Commercial and DVM systems are priced after a survey. An annual service is £95–£150 + VAT, and a repair call-out starts from £75 + VAT for diagnosis.
