How air conditioning works in N1C

The best installations are planned before a single hole is drilled. Each room is assessed for its size, windows, direction and how it’s used, then agree where the indoor and outdoor units go and how the pipework, cable and condensate drain will run before you get a fixed-price quote. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, multi-split systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are an old system that needs replacing and a home office that warms up with screens and equipment.

The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. After that, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Where we install in N1C

In N1C, we install in places such as Camden Town and well beyond. We cover every place we list for N1C, 1 in all.

London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.

Camden Town: Winfield House (roughly 1.2 miles south-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. If you commute from Camden Road station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed.

Aftercare tips

Once we have finished, these simple steps help:

  • Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs
  • Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit
  • Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends
  • File the paperwork with the manual

The filters are the one part you’ll look after yourself, so we show you how. Clean them every few weeks when the system is in heavy use, following the manual, and keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and clutter.

Report drips, noises or error codes early. Water from the indoor unit, a new rattle or a code on the display usually means something needs attention, and early repairs are typically simpler.

How we price air conditioning

Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. What we look at:

  • How easy the units are to reach
  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle
  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • What state the existing equipment is in

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you’re unsure, ring us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

What to send for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • The make and model of the system, from the label
  • The fuse board and where it is in the property
  • The address and the type of property
  • The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

What happens if it’s left?

The outdoor unit’s position is worth getting right first time. A good position keeps noise down and leaves room for servicing, and it can make a difference to planning. We agree it with you on the survey.

What your quote should include

  • What the manufacturer’s warranty covers and for how long
  • What’s in the price and what is not
  • Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it
  • Whether anyone has checked the property or the system first

When something else is needed

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
  • Draughts and missing insulation
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation

N1C: your questions answered

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

Most of the time. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.

How do I know what size unit to get?

Floor area is only part of it. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count and the survey covers each of them.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

It depends on the rooms, the system and the pipe route, but a single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Long pipe runs, difficult access, a new circuit and premium indoor units push the price up, and commercial systems are priced after a survey.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

We agree it with you on the survey. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We explain the options and any permissions to check.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, usually whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.

How long will the installation take?

Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access and the quote says how long to expect.

Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
