Air source heat pumps for The Warren

What the work involves, system by system

Air-to-water heat pumps

An air-to-water heat pump heats water for your radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water cylinder. It replaces the boiler as the main heat source and we install it to MCS standards.

Air-to-air heat pumps

Air-to-air heat pumps are now covered by permitted development rules in England, subject to conditions. A unit used solely for cooling is not covered and need a check with the council.

About our air source heat pumps in The Warren

A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and radiator systems, and people most often call us about questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump.

If your home near The Warren has no mains gas, the grant can be bigger. Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas can get an extra £1,500 on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. Keep it with the system’s paperwork so it’s to hand next time.

The Warren: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like The Warren?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Do you cover The Warren for air source heat pumps?

Yes, The Warren is within the area we cover. Get in touch with the details and we reply the same working day.

Will my radiators work with a heat pump?

We find out during the survey. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays and any changes are in the quote.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, any time. If something urgent happens, like water coming from a unit or a critical room overheating, call our 24/7 line and we will tell you what to do first.

Why does F-Gas certification matter?

For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. Ask to see proof before you book anyone and we will gladly show you ours.

What’s the price of a heat pump installation?

Air-to-water systems are £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before any grant. The final price depends on the heat loss survey, the radiators and the cylinder and the quote is fixed.

Is there VAT on a heat pump?

In residential accommodation, 0% until 31 March 2027 and 5% afterwards. Hotels and businesses pay the standard rate. Please treat this as general information, not tax advice.

How the visit works

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Visits to a place like The Warren are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the job needs.

  1. Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about parking and loading
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in

Air source heat pumps around The Warren

The Warren is about 28 miles from central London, well within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. The last census (2021) found about 43% of households in terraced houses. Terraced houses share walls with neighbours, which helps, but the outdoor unit position needs care with noise next door.

Period properties close to St Paul can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first. Homeowners near Martins Heron station often ask whether a heat pump can take over from the boiler, and the heat loss survey answers that.

Keeping the system healthy

Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Store the MCS certificate and warranty documents together
  • Let the heat pump run steadily, as set up at handover
  • Read the manufacturer’s warranty terms for your brand

In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit runs a defrost cycle from time to time. You might see steam or hear the unit change note, and that’s normal.

Leave space around the outdoor unit. Airflow is what it runs on so keep it unobstructed.

Honest limits

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules
  • Planning decisions, which rest with the council
  • Improving the building’s insulation

Not sure which it is? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
