Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Sandridge
Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. Homes with a combi boiler may not have a cylinder, so finding space for one is part of the survey. With air-to-air, hot water has to come from something else. We are often asked to deal with questions about where the outdoor unit can go and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating, on radiator systems, air-to-water heat pumps and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas.
Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Sandridge, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.
Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

What we do, step by step
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we let you know if plans need to move. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. After that, it takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Rural lanes and tight entrances are worth mentioning before a visit to Sandridge.
- We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
- We measure heat loss for every room.
- The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets and children away from the work area
- Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board

Owner checks or an engineer?
Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
What air source heat pumps cannot fix
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what air source heat pumps won’t do:
- Any gas work on the existing boiler
- Planning approval where permitted development does not apply
- Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
If in doubt, ring us on 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

FAQs for Sandridge
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Sandridge?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Sandridge, if they qualify. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and isn’t an add-on to a boiler. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.
Will you come out to Sandridge?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. That isn’t optional: it’s required by law, and we hold it.
What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?
Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling, and we help you choose. Both are part of what we install.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
How much time does a heat pump install need?
Expect it to take from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. How much of the heating changes decides most of the time, and we confirm the timing with your quote.
Will I need planning consent for an air source heat pump?
Many installations on houses in England fall under permitted development, subject to the rules. Listed buildings and their curtilages are excluded, and listed building consent is a separate matter, so we check for your property.
Heat pumps in Sandridge: local notes
At about 21 miles from central London, Sandridge sits inside the area we cover across London and the South East. Roughly a third of a mile or less from central Sandridge, you reach the Sandridge Conservation Area. On the National Heritage List, around 15 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Sandridge; Church of St Leonard (grade II*) is one. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?
Childwickbury Manor, roughly 2 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings. Live in one of the older houses around St Leonard's Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.
Sandridge is about 2 miles north-east of St Albans, in Hertfordshire. Sandridge gets the same approach as every job we take on: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote and written records at the end. In Hertfordshire alone we list 381 places, and Sandridge is one. For properties nearby, see our London page (21 miles or so).
If you need air source heat pumps at a property on High Street, St Leonard's Court and Anson Close or a nearby road, our engineers can take on the work. Work in AL4 follows the same survey, fixed-price quote and written records as everywhere else we cover. Other places close to Sandridge include Marshalswick (1 mile south), Ayres End (1 mile north-west), Bernards Heath (2 miles south-west), Childwick Green (2 miles west) and St Albans (2 miles south-west). We also work in nearby towns such as Watford (9 miles south-west), Hemel Hempstead (7 miles west), Stevenage (10 miles north-east) and Welwyn Garden City (5 miles east).

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Eligibility depends on the property and the scheme rules, so we check before you commit.
Outdoor unit position and planning
Permitted development conditions in England include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³ and must meet MCS 020(a) and not be used solely for cooling. It can’t be within the curtilage of a listed building.
A customer’s words
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
