How we handle air source heat pumps in Mid Lavant
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it doesn’t apply to businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. Please treat this as general information rather than tax advice. If the problem is questions about listed buildings or conservation areas and questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, we can help.
Homes around Mid Lavant normally have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.
Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Questions from Mid Lavant
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Mid Lavant?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Mid Lavant, if they qualify. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.
Is Mid Lavant within the area you cover?
Yes. Mid Lavant is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
What accreditations do you have?
We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Either way, keep a record of every service.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
Expect it to take a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. How much of the heating changes decides most of the time and the timing is set out with your quote.
How does the warranty work?
The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer so it’s worth keeping the service records.
Owner checks or an engineer?
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.
Why act early in Mid Lavant
For eligible off-gas homes on oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is on offer until March 2027. For homes that qualify, that’s a reason to look into it now. Getting the date in early helps for a place like Mid Lavant.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is looked at first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Homes in Mid Lavant and heat pumps
About 71% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. Mid Lavant’s centre is no more than about a third of a mile from the Mid and East Lavant Conservation Area. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 29 within half a mile of the centre, such as Church of St Mary (grade I). So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?
Live in one of the older houses around Church of St Nicholas? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. Historic houses such as Goodwood House, about 1.9 miles east, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in.
Mid Lavant is about 2 miles north of Chichester, in West Sussex. Across the PO18 area, our engineers can take on air source heat pumps. In West Sussex alone we list 371 places, and Mid Lavant is one. Worthing is in our area too, around 17 miles away.
The closest recent job we can point to from Mid Lavant was on East Street, Chichester (PO19), about 2 miles south: installing a Daikin wall-mounted unit in the dining area and a second unit serving the kitchen pass area.
St Nicholas Road, Churchmead Close and Springfield Close and the roads off them are all inside our area. Our engineers cover all of PO18 for air source heat pumps. Nearby, we also cover air source heat pumps in East Lavant (1 mile south-east), Westerton (2 miles south-east), Westhampnett (2 miles south-east), Chichester (2 miles south) and Waterbeach (2 miles east). We also work in nearby towns such as Bognor Regis (7 miles south-east), Selsey (10 miles south), Littlehampton (12 miles east) and Emsworth (7 miles west).

How the visit works
Protection comes first: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work, and we ask before moving anything. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. The work on site takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes, and we clear up before we go. For a place like Mid Lavant, the timing is set with you and the travel is our side of the planning.
- First we talk through the property and the current system.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Before we arrive
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Let us know where we can park and unload
- Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
