Air source heat pumps in Foxholes: the local picture
In the mile around Foxholes’s centre, 2 conservation areas have been designated. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 6 within half a mile of the centre, such as Gamels Hall (grade II). So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? At about 20 miles from central London, Foxholes sits inside the area we cover across London and the South East.
Live in one of the older houses around Church of the Holy Trinity? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

Air source heat pumps in Foxholes
A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home, using electricity to drive the process. It works on the same principle as air conditioning, run the other way, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If you are dealing with a boiler that’s getting old and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas, we can help.
Cottages and older homes near Foxholes can lose heat faster, which a heat loss calculation will show. Sometimes insulation first is the better investment.
Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

Keeping the system healthy
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Do not block radiators or indoor units with furniture
- Use the settings explained at handover
- Check eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme early
After commissioning, the installation is registered under MCS and you receive the certificate. File it with the warranty documents for future reference.
Heat pumps prefer steady, low-temperature running, using the settings agreed at handover.
System by system
Outdoor unit position and planning
Flats and blocks of flats have different limits, and Article 4 directions can remove rights. Listed buildings also need separate consent and we check what applies to you.
Radiators and underfloor heating
Underfloor heating suits a heat pump’s lower flow temperature and we look at it during the survey.
How it works
Everything the job needs comes with us, from tools and test equipment to ladders and dust sheets. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. The visit takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. We plan the visit to Foxholes from the survey or your pictures.
- We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
- We measure heat loss for every room.
- The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
- A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
- Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.
How to prepare
- Tell us about parking and loading
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Foxholes
Do you cover smaller places like Foxholes?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Foxholes?
Foxholes is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
What accreditations do you have?
As the law requires for refrigerant work, we’re an F-Gas certified company. We’re also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes, always. New installations come with commissioning details, F-Gas records and warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.
How long will it take to install a heat pump?
The work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. The survey lets us set a firm programme, and you can phone 07833 053749 or use the quote form to book it.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?
It depends on your home, your heating and whether you want cooling. Air-to-water can attract a £7,500 grant where eligible; air-to-air only qualifies for £2,500 under strict conditions, and we set out the options after the survey.
Do you need air source heat pumps in Foxholes?
For homes with no mains gas, heated by oil or LPG, a heat pump is well worth considering. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme includes an extra £1,500, until March 2027, for air source or ground source heat pumps in homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas, subject to the scheme rules.
Look out for these signs:
- Questions about where the outdoor unit can go
- A boiler that’s getting old
- Not knowing whether a grant applies
For a home near Hertford East station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better.
