How we handle air source heat pumps in Anmore
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. This is HMRC’s energy-saving materials relief, which applies to homes rather than businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. If you’re dealing with replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump and working out whether radiators need upsizing, we can help.
In a place like Anmore, some homes are listed, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.
Aftercare is simple, and most of it is in the manual: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

How the visit works
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. The middle part takes longest, which takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. We plan the trip to Anmore around you.
- We start with your plans and the property.
- A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
- You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
- Installation follows on the agreed dates.
- The job ends with commissioning, the MCS certificate and a walk through the controls.
Getting ready for the visit
- Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
- Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
- Tell us about parking and loading
How to get a quote
Here’s what helps us quote: the address and the type of property, pictures of the rooms or units, the make and model of any existing system and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, call us on 07833 053749.

- Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems

Anmore questions
Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Anmore?
It depends on the property. Around 3 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Anmore. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t face a road. Where necessary, we check with the planning department at Winchester City council, typically the authority for Anmore.
Is the heat pump grant available in Anmore?
Anmore is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.
Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?
We find out during the survey. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays, and any that need upsizing are set out in the quote.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. For simple jobs, pictures and a few details can be enough, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
That depends on the brand. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.
Which brands do you work with?
Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.
System by system
Outdoor unit position and planning
Under permitted development, the outdoor unit must be 1.5 m³ or less and must meet MCS 020(a) and not be used solely for cooling. Listed building curtilages are excluded.
Air-to-air heat pumps
Since 2025, air-to-air heat pumps can also be permitted development in England, subject to the conditions. A unit used solely for cooling is not covered and need a check with the council.
Safe owner checks
Keep a note of anything odd: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo of the display helps even more.
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Air source heat pumps in Anmore: the local picture
The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 43% of homes in Anmore and the neighbourhoods around it were built in 2000 or later, and about 70% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Newer homes normally lose less heat, which tends to suit a heat pump well. Houses usually have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
A heat loss calculation decides the size of heat pump your home needs. The installer applies for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, and we’re MCS certified.

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
