Air source heat pumps across Angmering

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Angmering

An air-to-water heat pump heats water to a lower temperature than a typical boiler, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes and anything that needs changing is in the quote. The work covers homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, air-to-water heat pumps and underfloor heating, and people most often call us about a boiler that’s getting old and checking eligibility for a heat pump grant.

Cottages and older homes near Angmering can lose heat faster, which a heat loss calculation will show. Sometimes insulating first makes more sense.

Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

The process

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. Photos of the existing unit and its label help with repairs and servicing near Angmering.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
  4. Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

Before we arrive

  • Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
  • Mention any parking restrictions near the property
  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • A grant for a home that does not meet the scheme rules
  • Planning approval where permitted development doesn’t apply
  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation

If in doubt, ring us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we’ll say what we think.

Where we work

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Radiator systems
  • Underfloor heating

Owner checks or an engineer?

Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

How the job changes from property to property

Radiators and underfloor heating

Underfloor heating suits a heat pump’s lower flow temperature and we look at it during the survey.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

There’s one grant per property, and you cannot get a grant to replace a low-carbon system, and hybrid systems are not eligible.

Heat pumps in Angmering: local notes

At about 2 miles from the coast, Angmering is close enough for sea air to matter. Coastal sites are worth mentioning at the survey, as salt air affects the outdoor unit and its fixings. Census 2021 figures found about 66% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. The Angmering Conservation Area is within about a third of a mile of the centre of Angmering. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 54 within half a mile of the centre, such as The Parish Church of St Margaret (grade II*). So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?

Homeowners near Angmering station often ask whether a heat pump can take over from the boiler, and the heat loss survey answers that. If your home is listed, like Ecclesden Manor about 0.4 miles east, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work.

FAQs for Angmering

Does being near the sea make a difference to air source heat pumps in Angmering?

It can, as Angmering is within about 2 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.

Will you come out to Angmering?

Yes. Angmering is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?

It depends on each radiator and the room it heats. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators give out less heat, and the survey checks each one.

Are you F-Gas certified?

We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We’re members of Checkatrade too.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

What warranty do I get?

The manufacturer’s warranty, on the manufacturer’s terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

A customer’s words

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
