Commercial air conditioning in Summerstown: local notes

Food Standards Agency data counts about 534 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens, about 7 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses and about 29 schools and colleges within about 1.5 miles of central Summerstown. Each of those is a different cooling job, from kitchen heat to quiet bedrooms and server rooms. About 53% of homes in the Summerstown area were built before 1919, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and Census 2021 figures found about 61% of households live in flats. In mixed streets, commercial outdoor units have to be placed and sized with the homes nearby in mind. For London businesses, plant position, noise and access are planned with the building first.

For premises near Earlsfield station, we plan plant positions and working hours with the landlord or managing agent first, where there is one. Before any plant goes outside a building like St Mary's Church, its trustees may need planning or heritage advice, and we work with whoever gives it.

Commercial air conditioning in Summerstown

We design, install and look after air conditioning for businesses in Summerstown and across Greater London. Offices, shops, restaurants, hotels, schools and server rooms all come with different demands and we choose the system to suit the space and the way it’s used. We’re often asked to deal with comms rooms without enough cooling and R410A systems getting dearer to top up, across multi-split systems, server and comms room cooling and ceiling cassettes.

Space for outdoor units is tight in much of London, Summerstown included, so condensers often go on roofs, in light wells or in plant rooms. VRF systems can serve many indoor units from a small number of outdoor units, which helps in dense areas.

Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. File them with the system’s paperwork, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

Rented and managed buildings

Whether it’s one property or many, you get the same standard: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote, work booked with the occupier and written records afterwards.

Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.

The process

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then the work itself, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes anything from a day or two for a small office to several weeks of phased work on a large building. If a freeholder or agent needs to agree the work in Summerstown, we can send them the details.

  1. First comes a survey, looking at the building and how it’s occupied.
  2. You get our recommendation and a fixed price.
  3. The programme is agreed, including any out-of-hours or phased work.
  4. The system is installed, wired and connected to its controls.
  5. We commission the system and hand over the F-gas records and controls.

How to prepare

  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them

Ask for a quote

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Summerstown: your questions answered

Is planning permission needed for air conditioning in Summerstown?

It depends on the property. There’s a conservation area, the Magdalen Park Conservation Area, close to central Summerstown. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Summerstown, usually Wandsworth council).

Can you do commercial air conditioning in Summerstown?

We do: Summerstown falls inside our working area. To start, phone us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few pictures.

How long will it take to install air conditioning in our building?

It takes from a couple of days for a few cassettes to a planned programme for a whole building. The size of the building, the system and any phasing make the biggest difference, and we set out the timing with your quote.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so it’s worth checking. Keep every service record either way.

Are you F-Gas certified?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, the approach is the same: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.

Is the equipment covered by a warranty?

Warranty comes from the manufacturer and depends on the brand and product. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning and we explain the terms for your brand on the quote.

When it’s something else

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Gas boiler or heating plumbing work
  • Planning permission or landlord consent on your behalf
  • Major builder’s work such as new openings in structural walls

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send an email and we will say what we think.

Where we work

  • Multi-split systems
  • Server and comms room cooling
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • VRF systems
  • Ducted systems

Safe owner checks

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

A customer’s words

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
