Air conditioning installation in Wantage
Need air conditioning in Wantage? We diagnose first, fix the price and book the work around you, finishing with proper records.
- An office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers
- Fans and portables that do not keep up
- A room that is unbearable on warm days
Safe owner checks
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.
Air con installers in Wantage
Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Just call us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier with photos of the rooms and the outside of the property, and we will reply the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. Modern air conditioning heats as well as cools: in heating mode they work as an air-to-air heat pump, so a system bought for summer earns its keep in winter too.
Where the outdoor unit goes decides how quiet and tidy the job is: airflow, noise towards neighbours, pipe length and access for servicing all count.
Most houses around Wantage have a side or back wall, or a patch of ground, where the outdoor unit can go. We keep it away from bedroom windows next door and run the pipework as neatly as we can, inside through a loft or outside in trunking.
We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

What happens on the day
Each visit follows the same order: agree the plan on site, protect the area, carry out the job, test what we’ve done and talk you through it. On site, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. Photos of the room and the outside wall help us plan a job in Wantage.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
- Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
- Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.
How to prepare
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Let us know where the consumer unit is
Getting a price
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Common questions in Wantage
Is planning permission needed for air conditioning in Wantage?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Wantage is a short walk from the Wantage Town Centre Conservation Area. Permitted development only covers heat pumps that aren’t used solely for cooling, and not within the grounds of a listed building. Conservation areas add limits on outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with Vale of White Horse council, which is usually the planning authority for Wantage.
Can you do air conditioning in Wantage?
Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and Wantage is part of that. Just phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line with a few details.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.
What does it cost to install air conditioning?
It depends on the rooms, the system and the pipe route, but a single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Where you sit in the range depends on pipe length, access, electrics and the model, and commercial systems are priced after a survey.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It means the refrigerant in your system is handled legally.
Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?
In most cases, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and we’re NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.

Other services in Wantage
For landlords and property managers
Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.
Bigger systems bring extra duties: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We arrange the inspection, get the system ready and put right anything it picks up.
What affects the quote in Wantage
Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- The equipment or parts the job needs
- Access, including height, roofs and ladders
- A single visit or a regular plan
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we look at the job first, from pictures or on a survey, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
When you call or email, these details help:
- The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.
What an install looks like in Wantage
VOA council tax data show about 31% of homes in and around Wantage were built in 2000 or later. Newer homes are often easier to fit, with cavity walls and space in the loft for pipework.
Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are typically the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start. Homes near Church of St Peter and St Paul are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.
