Air conditioning in New England
Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. Looking for air con installers near New England? We’re based in East Grinstead and cover London and the South East, with a fixed-price quote before any work starts.
Getting the size right matters more than the brand: we look at the room’s size, windows, insulation and use before choosing a unit.
Villages like New England often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. We check that first, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and the outdoor unit position is chosen to suit the building.
For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We’ll tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Homes in New England and air conditioning
The 2021 Census found about 86% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. With homes like that, finding a sensible outdoor unit position is rarely hard, and a multi-split lets two or more rooms run off it.
If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Leonard, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.
New England is in Essex. Whether you’re in the middle of New England or further out, we cover air conditioning, from small jobs to large ones. New England is one of 644 towns, villages and districts in Essex where we work. For properties nearby, see our London page (46 miles or so).
Jobs in CO9 are looked at, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Neighbouring places we cover include Birdbrook (1 mile south). Larger places within reach include Braintree (13 miles south), Saffron Walden (11 miles west), Halstead (10 miles south-east) and Great Dunmow (14 miles south-west).
Near you in New England
We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around Haverhill Railway Walks. A little further out are Clare Castle (4.2 miles east) and Haverhill and District Local History Centre (2.5 miles north-west).
What happens if it’s left?
If you are thinking about air conditioning for a property in New England, there’s no need to wait for a heatwave. Installation takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system, and the date is agreed with you once you’re happy with the quote. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.
Our prices page shows typical ranges, but each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we will talk you through it.

What else we do in New England
New England: your questions answered
Will you come out to New England?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Will air conditioning in New England need planning permission?
The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. The half-mile around the middle of New England holds about 9 listed buildings and structures. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones can’t, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact Braintree council, which is usually the planning authority for New England.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. Ask to see proof before booking anyone and we will gladly show you ours.
Are you F-Gas certified?
We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before any work starts, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
That depends on the brand. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what’s needed, where things go and what access we need and the fixed price is built on it.
For landlords and property managers
Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.
We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings across Essex. Larger buildings can be done in stages to keep disruption down.
Signs you need air conditioning in New England
Rooms overheat mostly because of heat they gain during the day. Sun through large windows, roof lights and glazed doors is the biggest source in many rooms, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
Look out for any of the following:
- An old system that needs replacing
- Fans and portables that don’t keep up
- Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
A loft bedroom or a glazed extension is often the room that prompts the first call.

How the visit works
Think of the visit in three stages: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. We plan the trip to New England around you.
- We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
- Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
- Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
