How we handle air conditioning in Hare Street
Across Hare Street, every installation follows the same steps: a site survey, or photos for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. Air con, air conditioning, a split system: whatever you call it, it’s the job we do every week across Essex.
Sizing is where cheap installs go wrong: we look at the room’s size, windows, insulation and use before choosing a unit.
For a home in or near Hare Street, an air-to-air system can cool in summer and heat in the cooler months, which suits garden rooms, lofts and extensions that the main heating struggles with.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

What the work involves, system by system
Wall-mounted split systems
Single-room split systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. Long pipe runs, difficult access and a new circuit affect where your job sits in the range.
Outdoor unit positions
We think about noise when we choose the spot: keeping it clear of bedrooms and boundaries where we can and fitted so vibration does not carry into the building. Position can also affect planning.
What happens if it’s left?
New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.
Typical ranges are on our prices page, but each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we will talk you through it.

What affects the quote in Hare Street
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- How easy the units are to reach
- What kind of system it is
- What state the existing equipment is in
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is looked at first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.
What we need to know
A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.
Air conditioning in Hare Street: local notes
VOA council tax data date about 44% of homes across Hare Street and its surrounding area to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and about 68% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). We check the wall construction on homes of that age, as it decides how the pipework goes through. Houses normally have a side or rear wall with room for the outdoor unit, and a multi-split can serve several rooms from one outdoor unit.
With historic houses such as Hill Hall about 3 miles west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules. Homes near Church of St Margaret of Antioch are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.
Hare Street is about 5 miles north-west of Brentwood, in Essex. We cover Hare Street for air conditioning, along with the rest of Essex. Count every place we list in Essex and you reach 644, with Hare Street on the list. Our London page covers places nearby (18 miles or so).
Our working area takes in CM5, every street of it. We also cover Little End (1 mile north-east), Stanford Rivers (1 mile north), Clatterford End (1 mile north-west), Marden Ash (2 miles north-east) and Navestock Heath (2 miles south). Further out, we also cover Chelmsford (12 miles east), Basildon (13 miles south-east), Harlow (8 miles north-west) and Brentwood (5 miles south-east).

What we do, step by step
We keep the work area tidy as we go, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. We agree a date with you and plan the visit to Hare Street so we arrive with what’s needed.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
- Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
- Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.
Before we arrive
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand

Common questions in Hare Street
Can I fit air conditioning in Hare Street without planning permission?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. Around 6 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Hare Street. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit isn’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with the planning department at Epping Forest council, typically the authority for Hare Street.
Is Hare Street within the area you cover?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?
Most of the time, yes: modern splits are normally heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. Noise near bedrooms and boundaries is part of the decision and position can affect planning.
Which accreditations do you hold?
F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
How does the warranty work?
The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer so it’s worth keeping the service records.
What a customer said
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
