A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, two rooms on a multi-split £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Those ranges include supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, and commercial VRF systems are priced after a survey. Every installation in Down Street begins with a look at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote that names the make and model.

Villages like Down Street often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. That matters, because a listed home needs consent and permitted development rules don’t apply to it.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we set them out on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, and we are happy to talk you through them.

Air conditioning in Down Street: the local picture

Downstreet Farmhouse, listed at grade II, is one of roughly 5 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Down Street’s centre. Before any outdoor unit is fixed here, we find out whether the building is protected. Where it is, the local planning authority (usually Wealden council) has the final say on what’s allowed. About 42% of homes in Down Street and the neighbourhoods around it date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and about 62% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Homes of that age usually have cavity or solid brick walls, and we check which before planning the pipe route. Houses usually have a side or rear wall with room for the outdoor unit, and a multi-split can serve several rooms from one outdoor unit.

If your home is in one of the older streets near The Parish Church of St Andrew and St Mary, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. Starting with one room is common, and the outdoor unit can be chosen with more rooms in mind.

What we do, step by step

Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first so it does not catch you out. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. On site, it takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. A few pictures help us make the most of a visit to Down Street.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
  • An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation

Not sure which it is? You can phone 07833 053749 and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • VRF systems

Down Street: your questions answered

Do you cover Down Street for air conditioning?

Yes, Down Street is within the area we cover. Just phone 07833 053749 with a few details.

Do you cover smaller places like Down Street?

Yes. Down Street is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, normally whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

How much is air conditioning for one room?

For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, with supply, fitting, commissioning and F-Gas documentation included. You get a fixed price before any work starts.

How soon will you get back to me?

You will hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Are you F-Gas certified?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

Different systems, different jobs

Wall-mounted split systems

For one room, a wall-mounted split is often the simplest answer. The indoor unit sits high on a wall, the outdoor unit goes outside, and the two are joined by insulated pipework, a cable and a condensate drain, with the route agreed on the survey.

Ducted systems

Ducted systems need space for the unit and the ductwork plus an access hatch for maintenance. The survey confirms whether there’s room.

Aftercare tips

After the visit, a few habits help:

  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
  • Let filters dry fully before you put them back
  • Book an annual service

The filters are the one part you’ll look after yourself, so we show you how. Clean them every few weeks when the system is in heavy use, following the manual, and keep space clear around the outdoor unit.

Give the outdoor unit room to breathe. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

What a customer said

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
