How we handle air conditioning servicing in Newenden

We are asked to service systems for many different reasons: a musty smell, weak cooling, water dripping indoors or simply because it’s been a while. Whatever the reason, the visit follows the same thorough checks. Typical jobs include warning lights on the indoor unit and frost or ice on the refrigerant pipes, on wall-mounted split systems, ceiling cassettes and air-to-air heat pumps.

Several units at a home near Newenden can be serviced in one visit.

We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

Newenden: your questions answered

Will you come out to Newenden?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

How often do you service systems in Newenden?

For most homes, once a year. Larger systems holding 5 tonnes CO2 equivalent or more also need a leak check at least every 12 months under the F-gas rules.

How much time does an air con service need?

A typical service takes an hour or so for a single wall-mounted unit, longer for a multi-split system. Units that are hard to reach can take longer, and we’ll tell you in advance.

When is an F-gas leak check required?

The rules are based on tCO2e, which comes from the refrigerant charge and its GWP. At 5 to under 50 tCO2e, it’s at least every 12 months; at 50 to under 500 tCO2e, every 6 months. Hermetically sealed systems under 10 tCO2e are exempt.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Every job is looked at first, on a survey, or from your pictures and details where the job is simple. Then you get a fixed-price quote.

Will you regas my air conditioning on a service?

A service does not include adding refrigerant. The refrigerant circuit is sealed, so a system that’s short of gas has a leak. Where the checks point to a leak, we explain the options for finding and fixing it.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we will tell you what to do first.

What a service looks like in Newenden

The middle of Newenden is part of a conservation area. Draw a one-mile circle round the middle of Newenden and it takes in 3 conservation areas. Historic England lists about 17 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Newenden, including Parish Church of St Peter (grade II*). We keep it in mind in case a new outdoor unit is ever needed, as protected buildings can need consent for that. The 2021 Census found about 80% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Wall bracket, ground pad or flat roof: knowing where the outdoor unit is saves time on the day.

If you can’t remember the last service, it’s probably due. Water dripping from the indoor unit often traces back to a drain that needs clearing.

Why it’s worth doing now in Newenden

For most systems at or over 5 tCO2e, leak checks are a legal requirement, not a choice. Missing one leaves you without the check and the record, and it’s simpler to keep to the schedule. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we look at the job first, from pictures or on a survey, and the price is agreed before we start.

Before you call an engineer

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

How the visit works

You do not need to do much on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and the rest is down to us. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you. A few photos help us make the most of a visit to Newenden.

  1. A date is fixed and the service price confirmed in advance.
  2. The engineer runs the system and checks how it’s performing.
  3. Filters, coils, fans and drains are cleaned and cleared.
  4. We check the wiring, controls and refrigerant circuit, and leak check systems that need it.
  5. A final test run follows, then you get the service record.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
  • Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
