How we handle air conditioning servicing in Fernham

We’re asked to service systems for many different reasons: smells at start-up, a unit that struggles on hot days, drips from the indoor unit, or a service that is overdue. The same full set of checks applies whatever prompted the call. If the problem is no service record for the last year or more and air conditioning that isn’t cooling as well as it did, we can sort it out.

We plan the trip to Fernham and can service more than one unit in one visit, which keeps it simple.

Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. Where yours does, a regular service with us keeps that side in order and each visit is recorded.

Servicing in Fernham: local notes

Historic England lists about 8 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Fernham, including Peach Cottage (grade II). For most visits that makes no difference. It only comes up when an outdoor unit has to be replaced on a protected building. Valuation Office Agency council tax records show about 32% of homes in and around Fernham were built in 2000 or later. If the outdoor unit is high up or behind a locked gate, mention it when you book.

Spring is a good time for a service, before the system is needed for cooling. Site managers at schools like Faringdon Community College can have the site’s units serviced during a holiday.

Fernham is about 7 miles west of Wantage, in Oxfordshire. Fernham gets the same approach as every job we take on: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote and written records at the end. In Oxfordshire alone we list 443 places, and Fernham is one. Guildford is in our area too, about 51 miles from Fernham.

How the visit works

You don’t need to do much on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and the rest is down to us. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Fernham easier.

  1. First, we agree a time and confirm the cost of the service.
  2. Before any cleaning, the system is run so we can see how it behaves.
  3. Then the cleaning: filters, coils, fan and the drain line.
  4. Electrical and refrigerant checks follow, including a leak check if the rules require one.
  5. We run the system again and leave you a service record.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
  • Let us know where we can park and unload
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

Ask for a quote

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, phone 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. A few tips:

  • Clear leaves and debris from around the outdoor unit
  • Keep the filters clean between visits
  • Keep the drain outlet clear

Where the system needs F-gas leak checks, the result is recorded and the next one falls due within 6 or 12 months, depending on the system. We can book it in ahead of time.

Book a service at least once a year, and more often if the system works hard or the rules require it.

Fernham: your questions answered

Will you come out to Fernham?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Can you do air conditioning servicing in Fernham?

Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and Fernham is part of that. Tell us a little about the job and we’ll take it from there.

When will I hear back?

On the same working day you contact us. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Which manufacturers do you install and repair?

We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.

Will you regas my air conditioning on a service?

A regas is a separate job, done once a leak has been found and fixed. Topping up without finding the leak means the gas escapes again, so we do not recommend it.

What accreditations do you have?

F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.

Let and managed properties

Records are where property maintenance often slips. Each visit produces a dated record, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, so you can show what was done and when.

Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the paperwork can go to both.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

A customer’s words

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
