Air conditioning repairs in Letchworth Garden City: local notes
The centre of Letchworth Garden City lies within the Letchworth Conservation Area. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 41 within half a mile of the centre, such as Town Hall (grade II). If a repair turns into a replacement on a listed building or in a conservation area, we check the planning position before changing the outdoor unit. VOA council tax data show about 30% of homes in the Letchworth Garden City area date from 1919 to 1939. If the outdoor unit is high up or behind a locked gate, mention it when you book.
Schools such as Pixmore Junior School can report a fault on the 24/7 line and have non-urgent work done out of term. Shops and offices around Letchworth Garden City station often cannot wait for cooling to come back, which is what the 24/7 line is for.

About our air conditioning repair in Letchworth Garden City
Our emergency line runs 24/7 for urgent breakdowns, such as a server room overheating or water coming through a ceiling. Ring 07833 053749 with the make, what’s happening and any code and we will talk you through what happens next. Common call-outs are for a flashing light and a system that won’t run and a unit that won’t start, on ceiling cassettes, VRF systems and multi-split systems.
Shops, offices and homes in Letchworth Garden City all use the same basic kit: an indoor unit, an outdoor unit and the pipes between them. A fault can be in any of them, which is why we test before we replace parts.
Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. Whatever the brand, the manufacturer’s terms are explained on your quote.

What air conditioning won’t do
Air conditioning repair can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- A system that was undersized for the room in the first place (that needs a bigger system, not a repair)
- A leak on an old R22 system
- A power cut or a fault on the incoming supply to the building (that’s for the network operator)
If you’re not sure, just phone 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer.

How the visit works
You do not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we have done. The more we can see first, the quicker the visit to Letchworth Garden City.
- Tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and send a photo of the display if you can.
- We diagnose on site, checking the codes, electrics, airflow, drain and refrigerant pressures.
- We explain the cause and give you a fixed price for the repair before any work goes ahead.
- With your agreement the part is replaced or the fault put right, and refrigerant work goes in the F-Gas log.
- We run the system, check it’s working properly and note anything else that needs attention.
How to prepare
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
- Tell us about parking and loading
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go

Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
Advice
Common questions in Letchworth Garden City
Can you do air conditioning repair in Letchworth Garden City?
Yes, Letchworth Garden City is within the area we cover. Just call us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few details.
Who do I call if my air conditioning fails in Letchworth Garden City out of hours?
Yes. Our 24/7 emergency line covers Letchworth Garden City. Say what the system is doing and whether it shows a code, and we will advise on the next step.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before we start, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Every visit is recorded, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us in Letchworth Garden City and across Hertfordshire. Let us know who the records should go to.
Do you work on all makes?
The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.
What causes ice on the indoor coil?
The coil gets too cold when air cannot move across it or when the refrigerant charge is low. A dirty filter is worth checking first, and if it’s clean, the system needs a diagnosis.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.
From a single flat to a whole estate, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.
Why deal with it now?
R22 systems are a different case. R22 depletes the ozone layer, and servicing with new R22 is not allowed, which normally makes replacement the sensible route after a refrigerant fault. We will tell you honestly and quote for a replacement if it makes sense. Getting the work done in Letchworth Garden City before summer is the easy option.
Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Call for a fixed-price quote and we will go through it with you.
