Istead Rise questions

Do you cover Istead Rise for air source heat pumps?

Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and Istead Rise is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 with a few details.

Do you cover smaller places like Istead Rise?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

How much VAT is charged on a heat pump in a home?

For homes, currently none: until 31 March 2027 the rate is 0% in residential accommodation, then 5%. Businesses and hotels pay the standard rate, and with air-to-air we confirm the VAT on the quote. This is general information, not tax advice.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?

Some radiators may be fine as they are, and some may need to be larger. At the lower temperatures a heat pump uses, radiators need more surface so we check every radiator against the room’s heat loss.

What accreditations do you have?

F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. You get a written record of each visit, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.

How we handle air source heat pumps in Istead Rise

A £2,500 grant is available for some air-to-air heat pumps, with conditions. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. If the problem is wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating and checking eligibility for a heat pump grant, we can sort it out.

If your home in or near Istead Rise is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work, and we ask before moving anything. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. It takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system, and we clear up before we go. Somewhere like Istead Rise, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.

  1. We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
  2. We measure heat loss for every room.
  3. We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
  4. A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
  5. Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.

Preparing for the visit

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

What air conditioning won’t do

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • Planning approval where permitted development does not apply
  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
  • Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades

If you are not sure, just call 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Radiator systems
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Underfloor heating

Air source heat pumps in Istead Rise: the local picture

About 43% of homes in and around Istead Rise date from 1945 to 1972, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and the last census (2021) found about 65% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Looking after it afterwards

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Avoid switching the heat pump on and off often
  • Store the MCS certificate and warranty documents together

If you were eligible for a grant, we handle the application and keep you updated since the grant goes through the installer.

Leave space around the outdoor unit. It needs good airflow to collect heat from outside so keep it unobstructed.

A customer’s words

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
