Air source heat pumps for Funtington

Keeping the system healthy

Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. A few tips:

  • Keep up with insulation and draught-proofing
  • Book a yearly service
  • Store the MCS certificate and warranty documents together

Where we applied for a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, we keep you informed through the process, as the installer applies for it.

Heat pumps prefer steady, low-temperature running, using the settings agreed at handover.

How we handle air source heat pumps in Funtington

For an air-to-water heat pump, the price is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme can provide £7,500 towards an eligible air-to-water system in England and Wales and the installer makes the application. Eligibility depends on the property, so we confirm it before anything is agreed. We’re often asked to deal with an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life and finding a place for the outdoor unit, on air-to-air heat pumps, underfloor heating and air-to-water heat pumps.

In a place like Funtington, some homes are listed, and permitted development does not cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.

For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

How the visit works

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Work in Funtington is booked in advance at a time that suits you.

  1. You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
  3. We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
  4. The system is installed and connected to the controls.
  5. We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.

Heat pumps in Funtington: local notes

The last census (2021) found about 76% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

If your home is listed, like West Dean House about 4.6 miles north-east, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work. If your home is one of the older properties near The Parish Church of St Mary, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

Funtington is about 4 miles north-west of Chichester, in West Sussex. From the centre of Funtington to the outskirts, our engineers cover air source heat pumps, from small jobs to large ones. Our West Sussex coverage runs to 371 places, Funtington among them. The nearest of our city pages is Worthing, around 20 miles from Funtington.

Not far from Funtington, a recent job of ours was on East Street, Chichester (PO19), about 4 miles south-east: installing a Daikin wall-mounted unit in the dining area and a second unit serving the kitchen pass area.

Our working area takes in PO18 in full. From Church Lane, Lynch Down and Weston Lane to the smaller roads in between, the whole area is covered. We also cover the places around Funtington: West Ashling (1 mile south-east), East Ashling (1 mile south-east), Hambrook (1 mile south-west), Racton (1 mile west) and Lordington (2 miles north-west). Questions from Funtington

Can I fit a heat pump in Funtington without planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Funtington is a short walk from the Funtington Conservation Area. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the planning department at Chichester council, normally the authority for Funtington.

Is the heat pump grant available in Funtington?

Funtington is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we’ll suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

How long will it take to install a heat pump?

The work takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. We confirm the timing after the survey, and you can phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line to book it.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns that can’t wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

What does an air-to-water heat pump cost?

Air-to-water work is in the £8,000–£16,000 range (0% VAT on homes), with any grant still to come off. Where you land depends on the size of heat pump, any radiators that need changing and the hot water cylinder, and air-to-air systems are priced after a survey.

Will you make a mess?

We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts when we finish.

When it’s something else

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation
  • Planning decisions, which rest with the council
  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we will say what we think.

What the work covers

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Radiator systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating
  • Hot water cylinders

Different systems, different jobs

Hot water cylinders

An air-to-water heat pump heats hot water through a cylinder. Space for the cylinder is part of the survey, especially if you have a combi boiler.

Air-to-air heat pumps

Air-to-air heat pumps warm rooms through indoor units and can cool them in summer. They do not heat hot water, so that has to come from elsewhere.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
