Air source heat pumps near Dane End

Let and managed properties

Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too across Hertfordshire. Larger buildings can be done in stages around the people who use them.

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is and we’re happy to deal with whoever it is.

About our air source heat pumps in Dane End

In England, an air source heat pump on a house can often go in under permitted development rights. The conditions include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³ and compliance with MCS 020(a), and the unit cannot be used solely for cooling or sit within the curtilage of a listed building. We check the rules for your property as part of the survey. If the problem is planning and permitted development questions and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating, we can sort it out.

In a place like Dane End, some homes are listed, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so consent comes first.

Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of their warranty. Where yours does, a regular service with us keeps that side in order, and every service is written up.

Before you call an engineer

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

Dane End questions

Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Dane End?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The half-mile around the middle of Dane End holds about 16 listed buildings and structures. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights don’t reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the local planning authority (for Dane End, normally East Hertfordshire council).

Will you come out to Dane End?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We are happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Every visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

Which accreditations do you hold?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • A grant for a home that does not meet the scheme rules
  • Planning approval where permitted development doesn’t apply

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What the work covers

What a heat pump looks like in Dane End

The last census (2021) found about 76% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

If your home is listed, like Aston Bury about 3.6 miles west, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work. If your home is one of the older properties near Parish Church of All Saints, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

How the visit works

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we’ve done. For a village like Dane End, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. We start with your plans and the property.
  2. The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
  3. We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
  4. We install the heat pump and connect it up.
  5. We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know where we can park and unload
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
