Air source heat pumps near Cote

Air source heat pumps in Cote, done properly

A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both and the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Common call-outs are for moving away from fossil-fuel heating and no space for a hot water cylinder, across hot water cylinders, air-to-air heat pumps and underfloor heating.

If your home in or near Cote is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we set them out on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, and we are happy to talk you through them.

Do you need air source heat pumps in Cote?

Extensions, renovations and loft conversions are a natural time to rethink the heating. It’s simpler to plan radiators, pipework and a cylinder while the builders are in.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Questions about listed buildings or conservation areas
  • Radiators that may be too small for a heat pump
  • Working out where a cylinder could go

Older homes near St Symphorian's Church may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.

What your quote should include

  • Proof of F-Gas company certification
  • Which VAT rate the quote uses, and why
  • Whether anyone has checked the property or the system first

Cote questions

Do you cover smaller places like Cote?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Cote?

Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Cote, if they qualify. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.

What’s the difference between air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps?

Air-to-water heats radiators or underfloor heating and hot water; air-to-air heats rooms through indoor units and can cool them. With air-to-air, hot water needs another source and the survey helps decide.

How much time does a heat pump install need?

A typical installation takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. We plan the work so you’re without heating for as little time as possible, and we explain it in advance.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

What air source heat pumps cannot fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different answer:

  • Any gas work on the existing boiler
  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation
  • Getting planning permission or listed building consent on your behalf

If in doubt, call us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before you book.

How the job changes from property to property

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers England and Wales: £7,500 for air-to-water (and ground source), and £2,500 for air-to-air with strict conditions. The application goes through the installer.

Air-to-air heat pumps

A £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is available for air-to-air only if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the full heating demand. It must be installed by an MCS certified installer and be in a home.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and the rest is down to us. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you. Pictures of the space and where the outdoor unit could go let us plan the work in Cote.

  1. Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them

How to get a quote

Getting a quote is straightforward. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

Air source heat pumps around Cote

Cote lies within about 3 miles of the sea. Coastal sites are worth mentioning at the survey, as salt air affects the outdoor unit and its fixings. VOA council tax data date about 50% of homes in and around Cote to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and about 92% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Homes of that age often have cavity walls that may or may not be insulated, which the survey checks. Houses typically have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder. 2 conservation areas lie within a mile of central Cote. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?

Historic houses such as Ecclesden Manor, about 2.5 miles south-west, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in.
