What we do, step by step
The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. On site, it takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Broadbridge easier.
- First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you’re hoping for.
- A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
- The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
- We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Getting ready for the visit
- Keep pets and children away from the work area
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
- Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow

Advice
Air source heat pumps in Broadbridge
Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5%. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it doesn’t apply to businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. Please treat this as general information rather than tax advice. Common call-outs are for working out whether radiators need upsizing and planning and permitted development questions, on underfloor heating, hot water cylinders and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas.
For a home around Broadbridge that’s off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Do you need air source heat pumps in Broadbridge?
Many enquiries start with a question about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Whether you can get the grant depends on your home and the scheme conditions, so we check before you commit.
These are the situations we see most often:
- Deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home
- Checking whether planning permission is needed
- Plans to switch to electric heating with a heat pump
If your home is near Bosham station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits.
What your quote should include
- Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
- Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it
Aftercare tips
Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. Our tips:
- Keep radiators clear
- Look at insulation alongside the heat pump
- Keep the outdoor unit clear all year
If you were eligible for a grant, we handle the application and keep you updated, as the installer applies for it.
Do not cover radiators with furniture or heavy curtains so the heat can get into the room.
Broadbridge: your questions answered
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Broadbridge?
Broadbridge is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.
Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in Broadbridge?
It can, as Broadbridge is within about 3 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for problems that can’t wait for a planned visit. Call 07833 053749 and tell us what’s happened.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so check the terms or ask us. Keep every service record either way.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and each engineer needs the right qualifications too. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.
How much time does a heat pump install need?
As a guide, it takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short, and we explain it in advance.
Air source heat pumps around Broadbridge
At about 3 miles from the coast, Broadbridge is close enough for sea air to matter. Near the coast, we choose the outdoor unit position with salt-laden wind in mind. On the National Heritage List, around 7 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Broadbridge; Broad Stream Cottage (grade II) is one. For a heat pump, permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the local planning authority (normally Chichester council) where necessary. Valuation Office Agency council tax records show about 33% of homes in and around Broadbridge were built in 2000 or later, and the last census (2021) found about 70% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Newer homes normally lose less heat, which tends to suit a heat pump well. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
Period properties close to The United Reformed Church can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.
