Fujitsu, General and Airstage
Fujitsu air conditioning has been sold in the UK for many years, and plenty of homes and offices still have units with the Fujitsu badge. The manufacturer’s UK company is now GENERAL HVAC Solutions UK Limited, and its products are sold under the Airstage name. If you have an older Fujitsu system, nothing changes: we can still service and repair it, and the model number on the label is what matters when we look up parts or fault codes.
Ranges for homes
The UK company lists split systems and multi-split systems for homes. In practice that means wall-mounted units in several ranges from economy to high specification, plus floor-mounted and ducted options for rooms where a wall unit doesn’t suit. Current wall units for UK homes generally use R32.
Fujitsu has long been chosen for straightforward, well-built wall units at a sensible price, and for multi-splits that serve two or more rooms from one outdoor unit. Because model codes and range names have been changing with the move to Airstage, we confirm the exact current model, size and features on your quote rather than quoting from an old brochure.
Airstage VRF and commercial systems
For business premises, the range includes larger split systems with cassettes, ducted and under-ceiling units, and Airstage VRF for buildings with many zones. VRF runs many indoor units from shared outdoor units with central control, and suits offices, hotels and schools. The company also lists ventilation products and air-to-water heat pump systems. See our VRF and commercial air conditioning pages for how we plan these projects.
Controls and the Airstage app
Each unit has a handset, and Wi-Fi models can be controlled through the AIRSTAGE Mobile app, which lets you switch the system on, change modes and set schedules. Some wall units include Wi-Fi as standard; others need an adaptor, so check before you compare quotes. On commercial systems we usually fit wired or central controllers. Our guide to smart air conditioning apps explains the options.
Refrigerants on older Fujitsu systems
Many Fujitsu systems installed before the switch to R32 use R410A, which has a GWP of 2,088 compared with 675 for R32. They can still be serviced and repaired legally, but R410A is getting scarcer and dearer as the GB phase-down tightens. If yours needs a large refrigerant top-up or a major part, our article on repairing or replacing older systems helps you decide.
Where Fujitsu fits
- Bedrooms, home offices and living rooms: wall units sized to the room.
- Two or more rooms: a multi-split.
- Shops and offices: cassettes or ducted units.
- Larger buildings: Airstage VRF.
- Existing Fujitsu sites: servicing and repair of systems already in place.
If you’re adding a room to a house that already has Fujitsu units, staying with the same brand can keep the remotes and app consistent. It isn’t essential, though, and we’ll tell you if another brand suits the new room better.
Warranty
Warranty on Fujitsu and Airstage equipment is the manufacturer’s, and the length and conditions can depend on the product range and on the installer’s training and registration with the manufacturer. We don’t claim a manufacturer status, so we explain the manufacturer’s warranty that applies to your system on your quote. We don’t add a warranty of our own, but we keep commissioning and service records to support any claim. See our warranty guide.
Older Fujitsu systems: repair or replace?
Many Fujitsu units installed ten or more years ago are still running well. When one fails, the decision usually comes down to three things: the cost of the repair, the refrigerant it uses and the condition of the rest of the system. A failed fan motor or sensor on an otherwise healthy system is usually worth fixing. A leaking R410A system that needs a large top-up, or a failed compressor on an old unit, may be better replaced with a current R32 model, which will also be more efficient. We diagnose first, give you a fixed price for the repair and, where it makes sense, a price for replacement too, so you can decide with the facts in front of you. If the existing pipework is in good condition and suitable, it can sometimes be reused, which we check case by case.
Strengths and things to consider
Strengths: a long track record in UK homes; good value wall units; and a full range up to VRF.
Things to consider: the change of name to Airstage can make it harder to compare models with older reviews and brochures; fewer design-led finishes than some rivals; and warranty terms can depend on the installer, so ask each installer which manufacturer’s terms apply. Our Fujitsu air conditioning review covers the range in more depth.
