Commercial air con in Northaw
Our engineers work in Northaw on commercial air conditioning. A look at the job first, a fixed-price quote and written records at the end.
- TM44 recommendations that need acting on
- Missing F-gas records for commercial systems
- Server rooms running too warm
Safe owner checks
Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
How we handle commercial air conditioning in Northaw
Air conditioning systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW must have a TM44 inspection at least every 5 years. The inspection is carried out by an accredited energy assessor; we’re not assessors, but we prepare systems for inspection and act on what the report finds. The work covers server and comms room cooling, multi-split systems and ducted systems, and common reasons people get in touch are changes of use that need a new layout and installs that must fit around trading hours.
In a village like Northaw, commercial air conditioning is usually for a pub, a shop, a surgery, a village hall or a rural business. Older buildings may be listed, so planning comes first.
Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Rented and managed buildings
If you look after several properties, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Every address has its own paperwork, so each one has its own history.
From a single flat to a whole estate, the approach is the same: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote, work booked with the occupier and written records afterwards.

Northaw: your questions answered
Do you cover Northaw for commercial air conditioning?
We do: Northaw falls inside our working area. To start, phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line with a few pictures.
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Northaw?
The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. Central Northaw is a short walk from the Northaw Village Conservation Area. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and isn’t used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof isn’t allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask the planning department at Welwyn Hatfield council, normally the authority for Northaw.
What does the operator have to do under the F-gas rules?
For systems at or above 5 tCO2e, the operator must have leak checks carried out and keep records. Checks are at least every 12 months from 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 to under 500 tCO2e and we carry out the checks and keep the records.
Are you TM44 assessors?
We don’t carry out the inspection itself, as it needs an accredited energy assessor. What we do is prepare the system and carry out the improvements the report suggests.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
We install and work on the leading makes, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we’ll take it from there.
Can you look after our air conditioning after it’s installed?
Yes. With a contract, servicing and F-gas checks happen on time, with records kept for each visit.
How it works
Every visit follows the same order: agree the plan on site, put the dust sheets down, do the work, check the system and talk you through it. The visit itself takes a matter of days for a modest fit-out, with larger buildings phased floor by floor or zone by zone. If a lane or gateway near Northaw is tight for a van, let us know and we’ll plan for it.
- You tell us about the building and what’s needed.
- A site survey confirms the heat load, the layout and the access.
- We set out the options, the price and the programme.
- Installation goes ahead around the business.
- The system is commissioned and maintenance can be arranged.
How to prepare
- Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
- Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
Getting a price
Getting a quote is straightforward. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.
